I've never understood why people are so certain #Banksy is a man and not a woman or, say, an #anarchoFeminist artist collective (two options that make A LOT more sense to me) 🧐

Maybe they know something I don't? 🤷🏻‍♀️

TO JOURNALISTS: Please don't use Mastodon for private messages. Instead, use an encrypted messenger.

If you want something decentralized, I suggest XMPP or The Matrix.

Good old fashioned email also works.

There's also an instant messenger known as DeltaChat that's based on email protocols, and sends your chats to email—where they can be stored and archives. delta.chat/en/

2nd Life did the Metaverse before Meta arrived.

So really, Meta should just re-brand themselves as 3rd Life.

I've seen a big uptick in followers during the past week (probably due to the Twitter migration). So here's a brief on what to expect from me:

1. My bio is brief -- on purpose
2. I largely post about social media, economics, business, music, and aesthetics
3. My daughter is autistic, and I (probably) am too
4. I own a lot of vintage electronics
5. I also run my own instance at peerverse.space

If you want to know more, you'll have to interact with me 🙂

Dear Dems: Gen Z saved our ass.

Not just the party, the country, the west and the planet.

We need to make THEIR agenda ours in EVERY way. No more baby steps.

Go ALL IN on climate change, debt relief, social justice, repro rights, cannabis legalization & living wages.

Now the way the Internet Archive is doing mastodon is how more organisations and celebs should be joining the fediverse!

They have a dedicated in house instance, which lets you identify official staff, and gives them control and security over their content, whilst also allowing people and instances to opt in or out of interacting with them

Kudos for doing it right @internetarchive!

I'm curious if there are #AsianAmerican or #Asian folks here? And other cool #BIPOC people to follow?

Please boost so we can find each other :squirtle: #TwitterMigration

Mischief with my Dungeons and Dragons character, Crowfoot the Kenku.

Not only did she fail miserably to pass as a human, but she may have discovered a cursed staff. We'll see how that goes.....

I love seeing people discover Owncast for the first time and getting it up and running far faster and easier than they expected.

There's room for the infinitely scalable uber software that will run an enterprise business of any size. But if we're going to empower normal people to have options that aren't just big tech, we need other things, too.

The Pixel People at Home v4.alpha (I just rather love how this came out!)

#Introduction: I'm Elle Mitchell, an #author of suspense and horror (mostly). I've published 5 books thus far with another one coming out in March 2023. It's a slice-of-life #horror novel—think American Psycho meets A Certain Hunger with a #disabled protagonist.

I am disabled myself, I've got two furbabies, and I'm a part-time squirrel mom. I make miniatures related to my stories because tiny things make me smile. I'm also stupidly, happily married.

Say hi! I'd love to meet you.

This is why you don’t edit when you write. I wrote over 1K words, then decided the scene didn’t work, so I reset today’s word count to 0.
Write now. Edit later.

Great interview on mouse history

That PDF of an interview with Larry Tesler has one of the best breakdowns around the way that innovation happens (related to the story of the mouse) imaginable.

I said, you know, “This button is going to be pushed a lot and people are going—their hands are going to tire if it’s too stiff. And the button is going to wear out.” He said, “Oh, don’t worry about it. This button is rated for 40,000 presses.” I said, “Uh… 40,000 presses—I don’t think that’s enough. How many years you think that’s going to be?” He said, “I don’t know. Several years for sure.” And so we did a little calculation on the back of a napkin and I said, you know, “Ten button presses a minute and so and so an hour, eight- hour day, you know, 3 million button presses,” or something like that.

It's got everything: Physical hardware, cutting and pasting, and Apple deciding on a single button. Starts on page 26. computerhistory.org/collection
