Beacons! The store may not be relying on location data, but rather Beacons. Your phone may be scanning for Bluetooth beacons near an M&S store and then it pops up.

This can happen even if you don't have an app installed (for example, I used to get messages that there was a Fossil store nearby on my way to work daily, even know I don't have any Fossil app).

For some time I have this idea of a small (size and power consumption) DOS machine that I can use as a distraction-free programming environment to improve my C skills and learn more about low level stuff, but I would like to play games on it too (with sound).
It's a shame that all of my small computers (most thin clients) don't have sound support for DOS.
