So like we just log in and NOT start arguing?

Weird.

Useful, plain-English explainer of the Internet as a system. Less about packet structure, more about the complex set of relationships that enable those packets to move. plumconsulting.co.uk/how-the-i

This is really quite fascinating. There is exactly one ISP that is blocking mail from the mail server I run, which is used to deliver mail for infosec.exchange - t-online.de. It annoys me to no end that I see people try to subscribe to infosec.exchange and the confirmation emails are rejected. So, I contacted their postmaster, and to their credit, they got back to me very quickly, but they are basically saying "yeah, you need to use one of the big mail providers if you want to send mail to t-online subscribers".... Ok then. My apologies to any t-online subscribers (who probably can't see this anyhow), but you'll apparently need to use a different email account to register.

Playlist Of The Week - classic rock for adventurers

I call this playlist "'72 Plymouth Duster", a classic rock playlist for traveling.

You're looking for something, although you don't know what it is. You'll know it when you see it.

Long road trips, well-worn jeans, carnivals and BBQ, and the only thing you've got to worry about is where your next drink is gonna come from.

Live rough. Live reckless. But by god you're gonna live.

"I had spent many years pursuing excellence, because that is what classical music is all about... Now it was dedicated to freedom, and that was far more important." -- Ms. Nina Simone

I know all you Europeans love Nina Simone music. But she paid a hellish price for her activism. Never forget that.

The title of this thread is called "Angry Black Women".

On January 20, 2017 this picture was my Facebook avatar. It is Michelle Obama at the inauguration of the 45th president. About a month later, a white female person I know texted me "Can you change your avatar photo, now." Which I did. The following is a selection of the Angry Black Women avatars I used since. These Angry Black Women changed out lives for the better.

Risks to Mastodon with increasing popularity

Interesting comment on Hackernews regarding a possible scenario/long term risk should Mastodon threaten the corporate sphere of social media.

Today in 1927, Ernie Coombs was born. Arriving in Canada with Fred Rogers to work with the CBC, he remained and created Mr. Dressup in 1967. The show would air until 1996, making Coombs an icon to generations of children.

In 1938, kindergarten teacher Helen Hulick wore slacks to court to testify as a witness in Los Angeles, CA. Judge Arthur Guerin was appalled & rescheduled the case, instructing her to “return in a dress.”

The next day, Hulick showed up in slacks again, declaring, “I will stand on my rights…I like slacks. They’re comfortable.”

She was sent to jail. web.archive.org/web/2021031514

I've seen plenty of discussions in recent days over the network structure of Mastodon and whether it can remain decentralized as large commercial players begin taking an interest in the fediverse. I am neither an engineer nor an economist, but I do research the way media and information get distributed and I have some thoughts on this. A thread…

Autism + Books + Science Fiction

Not sure how legitimate this is, but saw this link floating around online: coda.io/form/Science-Fiction-R

"The RI State Library is going to put together a display of Science Fiction novels recommended by #ActuallyAutistic readers. Please give us your recommendations!"

I thought some here may be interested in submitting their favourite SciFi novels!
