Hello everyone 👋

For months I've worked on a poster about designing for users with dyscalculia and low numeracy.

Today it's ready.

designnotes.blog.gov.uk/2022/1

Please use it to improve your service for people who struggle with numbers.

I'm happy to chat to anyone about the poster or what it's like living with dyscalculia.

Created with colleagues Rachel Malic and Jane McFadyen at DWP and HMRC.

I didn't hashtag my introduction, so let me do that again, and then pin it.

I'm a #cancer and #CPTSD survivor, carer, #bi+ activist, former union rep, #polyamorous person, great cook, #photographer, #feminist, #atheist (former Catholic), #SJW, #gamer (all types), and generally awesome. I will block TERFs, SWERFs, and other bigots.

I tend to post about my own lived experience (will use Content Warnings when necessary), #photography, #feminism (the real, trans-inclusive kind), cooking, usefulness of instructions, how little sleep I got, whether I am in pain, and sometimes frustrations.

Would love to follow more photographers, #feminists (the trans-inclusive ones), #writers, #musicians, people with similar political opinions to mine, people who love cooking, people who play games.

#PSA for all my #trans people:
The super-helpful browser extension Shinigami Eyes seems to have added Mastodon support!! It's not mentioned on the homepage right now, but my #Firefox extension has it in the release notes :_gaysparkle:

If you're not familiar, It highlights known trans-friendly user @'s in green, and transphobic ones in red.

It was invaluable on Twitter, and while Mastodon can be a safer space for some people, I thought everyone would like to know!

Here's an original (circa 1904) rotary AC-DC converter providing power to the (former) IRT subway in NYC. It still works, and is occasionally pressed into service during times of peak load, though most of the system now uses solid-state converters. It is very loud.

I wrote an article about this server for Mic. :)

“The fact that we can run our own Mastodon server and never be kicked out, like what recently happened to [anarchist news site] It's Going Down and others on Facebook, and still be part of this larger constellation of Mastodon servers, or Fediverse, is a very anarchist vision of what the world should look like. Small self-governing communities or affinity groups, united but decentralized.”

Oh man, big day!
#CISA reached out to help provide some new links to the s0cm0nkey.gitbook.io/s0cm0nkey. (Imposter syndrome hitting. Like how did they even find my work?!?!)
On top of that I got called in for an interview to be an adjunct professor of Cyber at my local community college.
Teaching and giving back to the cyber community has been one of the most rewarding things for me and I can’t wait for an opportunity to do more!

Most of the stuff I learned about Mastodon, I learned from folks retweeting "helpful tips" for new folks. Just trying to pay it forward to some degree if someone replies to a post of mine with good advice on how to make Mastodon work for you.

It's hard when you dunno and while Mastodon isn't HARD to use; it's different than Twitter and that makes ppl leery. Just trying to help a bit; randomly and apace.

TIL that all currencies have an ISO assigned currency code. And some Arab states like Oman, Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq and Libya use 3 decimals instead of 2.

Good Zod, it must have been forever since I played . Or they've just completely rejiggered the interface with this expansion. What's all this, then? XD

Now is working!

Coulda sworn all those became mortal an expansion or two ago. But here they are again! I expect I'll eventually stumble on the relevant ...

During an IB economics exam today I gave students 2 minutes in the middle of the 80 min exam to get up and talk to their peers.

The mood lightened, positive energy was restored, and students later said that it helped.

Because students were writing long responses to questions, I doubt there is much need to worry about cheating.

On balance I would say “the juice was worth the squeeze”; the benefits outweighed the cost.

Has anyone else tried this? #edutwitter
