“The histories of artworks are linked.”
Why does this matter for #provenance & how does it affect #museums?
In the peer-reviewed essay “Taking Care of History: Toward a Politics of Provenance Linked Open Data in Museums,” now published in the digital publication "Perspectives on Data" from the Art Institute of Chicago and edited by Emily Lew Fry and Erin Canning, Lynn Rother, Fabio Mariani, and I tackle these questions.

#geekery : preemptively blocking a #Mastodon server by name
https://paper.wf/ceoln/geekery-preemptively-blocking-a-mastodon-server-by-name
So it seems we should do an #introduction. I'm a software developer currently working at a biotechnology firm in southern California helping build their first product. I develop in C++ and C for the flattened green pellets, I use Rust and Python in my spare time, hacking on a fringe biology-inspired computer vision thing. I am a Linux and i3 user and I hate your mainstream OS. Just kidding use what you want, just don't ask me for help! 😜
I am a fan of SpaceX, independent of the guy in charge, who is clearly a loon. I'm old as dirt, socially liberal and a recovering libertarian. I walk a lot and am a bad vegetarian. I enjoy smokey and/or peaty scotch whisky, and have never turned down a good IPA.
@ceoln I always check Bookfinder.com or viaLibri.net (or both) before buying new, even from a publisher on sale. Then again, I'm sometimes surprised to see books for sale direct from publishers for less than I see them listed even used at sites like those.

Okay, the DOM appears RATHER COMPLEX here. Maybe I can use the API directly?
Custom xylophone bars
Recently got done fine-tuning and polishing some of my own handmade rosewood xylophone bars. : ]
They look pretty good and sound even better!

Okay, another instance of basically this same question, but this time perhaps with a different answer:
Now I want to personally block the odious-looking pleroma.narrativerry.xyz server (pleroma, sigh), but when I search on what's apparently the only user on the server ("demitasse"), it finds it, but says "Profile unavailable", and doesn't provide the usual menu.
So I don't have a way to get to a "block entire domain" button from there. And at least on the #qoto web UI here, I don't know a way to get an input field into which to type a domain name to block.
Is there some magic? (Hm, maybe I can hack the DOM.)
We need to talk about c.im…
According to reports by members and ex-members, the c.im instance doesn’t just ban racism, sexism, etc., but – in a warped reading of what otherwise appear to be boilerplate instance rules – any mention or discussion of racism, sexism, etc.
I’m not sure if #fediblock is the right response here as a more effective approach might be to make folks on the instance aware of this first so they have a chance to migrate.
Uh, maybe a #Fediblock suggestion? I got this shady follow request from a disgusting instance name. Thanks, @moderation for screening it!
Unlike @Hagukh I only ever find a single species of Cladonia - but when I saw these today I pictured little fairies eating icecream out of their tiny cups 😊 #LichenSubscribe #inaturalist observation: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/145276333
I moved mastodon servers (from a general one to a more nature related one) and that lost my previous posts so as new #introduction here's pictures of my favorite #inaturalist observation I made in 2022. It was a completely random find, I had no idea this plant even existed before I almost stepped on it. These surprise finds are always the best!
It was a very tiny plant, growing in an alligator infested marsh in South Carolina. It's called Burmannia biflora or northern bluethread and distantly related to #orchids, but unlike any North American orchids with a very pretty shade of blue. Just like orchids they rely on soil fungi for nutrition and seed germination.
Another #lichen first for me - according to #inaturalist this is not Xanthoria parietina (golden shield lichen, the really common one here) but Polycauliona polycarpa (sunburst lichen, slightly less common). The inaturalist identifier even explained that the difference is the much smaller leaves compared to the disks!
