All the discourse around #TransHealthCare mystifies me. #Trans people are the *absolute last* group who want anyone forced into a body that’s wrong for them, they're not trying to recruit anybody.

Seems to me that encouraging gender fluidity & exploration, rather than strict gatekeeping, is the best way to prevent regretted transitions. Lower stakes would mean people could dip their toes into the pool of gender nonconformity without committing to an identity, making backing out easier.

I wonder if the first guy who threw shit into a fan knew what an incredible legacy he would leave behind?

Lots of people wonder if the devastating outcomes of Nixon's and Reagan's policies were not racism, but just a series of unfortunate coincidences. Luckily, Reagan and Nixon said lots of racist things to remove all doubt.

It's easy to see interpersonal racism. It's hard to see systemic racism.

Right now someone reading this is more shocked at the racist things that Reagan and Nixon said, than at their policies.🙂🙃

“If you do arithmetic in JavaScript in this way you wouldn't ever think to write arithmetic, all of the common JavaScript VMs slow down. Here’s how to avoid this ‘VM de-opt’!”

A reminder to software folks that information like this is just fun trivia, not performance engineering. You build fast software by carefully considering overall architecture and then profiling user-visible slowdowns to pinpoint and fix an exact cause.

Every time large cities consider introducing some restriction on car, some argue that that would be particularly unfair against the poor.

But in large cities the vast majority of the poor have no car, while the vast majority of the rich have one. See data from Germany
