The Danish artist Thomas Dambo artist put up large, wooden trolls all around Denmark. They are located in various hidden or hard-to-get-to places, making them perfect as destinations for hikes (or bike rides):

I plan to visit a whole bunch of them with my son in our cargo bike during the upcoming summer holiday.

I just found out that the French posters for Barbie have a translation quirk so they read: "She knows how to do everything. He just knows how to fuck." and I think maybe the universe is healing

(see below, where french speakers explain)

@liaizon As far as the ActivityPub standard is concerned, usernames should be completely changeable.
As you noticed with Mastodon and Akkoma, they add the username to the ActivityPub ID which makes changing usernames pretty much impossible since the ID is supposed to be immutable.

We are using the IDs at the moment since it will make it easier for us to potentially support multiple domains (something similar to what Takahe does).
But we can also explore how different implementations react to username changes, and if the reaction isn't "we break everything", it might be something worth considering.

This multi-domain support is also somewhat related to portability. The idea is that a user is able to register their own domain and use a hosted instance via their own domain.
I.e. the account is on "kitsune.nexus" but they use their own domain with it.
The IDs of the actor, posts, etc. reference that own domain they brought.

This will enable some sort of portability (at least between Kitsune servers) since the user is still in control of their domain. A more detailed explanation can be found here: shadowfacts.net/2023/activityp

This is all very much in the planning phase though.

However this is something we want to add before we do our first "proper" release since we want to guarantee data model stability from there on out.

On June 16th, 1987 the SDF-1 received its first caller at 300 baud. Happy 36th birthday SDF!

I have to keep biting my figurative tongue when some random internet yutz, or especially when someone who ought to know better, presents their TOP TIPS FOR LLM PROMPTING somewhere.

I want to say "Ooh, that's interesting! Where can I see the data from the controlled experiments where you discovered / validated these tips?".

But it would be pointless (because they didn't do that, they're just talking out of their cloaca), and it would be sort of mean.

Sigh.

My masterpiece, done with Chemen Or this evening at the #GatesOfHell in observance of Russia Day. It took about half an hour of trying to get the words “Putin Khuylo” (Google it) onto the flag flying atop the embassy compound. But #LordLaser got it done, and Chemen got the video. Slava Ukraini to Ukrainians everywhere. And thanks to everyone who turned out at the embassy tonight to make trouble and make sure that Russia Day festivities at the Evil Empire were maximally disrupted.

I reviewed Osamu Dazai's "Flowers of Buffoonery". It didn't do much for me, but on the other hand it's probably a very good book. O.o

Who's done the clearest and friendliest medium-length explanation of how LLM-ing search is going to destroy the human incentives to publish knowledge and analysis? I'm sure there are many, and I don't want to rewrite the wheel.

(And every time I allude to this future, I get people who are totally baffled by the idea of LLMs as extractive and enclosing, so it's not something that goes without saying.)

There's a Fediverse alternative to #Reddit called #Kbin. More info at kbin.pub

Still VERY new, not many servers yet, two so far in English:

fedia.io
kbin.social

No app yet, use it through these sites. Subreddits are called "Magazines". You can interact with magazines from other servers.

Coders help Kbin at codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core, non-coders donate at buymeacoffee.com/kbin

(Sorry to people bored of this, had many requests to put info in one place)

Hi. I'm a little apprehensive to post an #introduction as it's hard to define a person in a few paragraphs.

I'm Dennis. My pronouns are he/him. I am an LGBTQ+ ally🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️. My last name is pronounced like the French verb "foʊʃeɪ". My Father's family is from Quebec and came over from France in the 1600s. I live in Massachusetts and grew up in Connecticut.

I'm married and have three adult children who live in Canada and Scotland. We have lots of pets including one dog, three cats, and five chickens. The chickens surprised me with how much personality they have. My lovely wife is a jeweler, so if you need help with that art LMK.

For hobbies, I love photography, kayaking/canoeing, hiking, and of course poking at technology stuff in my home lab including virtualization, containers, robots, ML, DL. I was a Boy Scout Assistant Scout Master for six years. That was a hoot.

At work, I am in pre-sales. Those are the folks that are supposed to know every random corner of IT enough to not look like a deer in the headlights when a customer says "Can you help me design and implement a transmogrifier?" I love the company I work for. The culture and people are _amazing_. Really.

Mentorship is important to me and during any given week I am volunteering my time mentoring others.

Feel free to say hi and/or DM me about anything that I might be able to help with.

Twitter learned, and Reddit is fast learning, that people are not addicted to the platform, they’re addicted to the community they found there. Ruin the community, and people will leave the platform. It really is that simple.
