Hot take: Mastodon’s failure to penetrate the larger culture, but heavy acceptance by nerdy and geeky people, is actually the selling point. It's like pre-Eternal September Usenet. And I can trust that most people here know what that means.

I don't want twitter. I got what I want.

Had I cut the goldenrod indiscriminately, this small nest would be gone. Those few plants will stay here, bloom, and spread their evil seeds, but the owner of the nest will keep it's home.

I managed to get a glimpse of the owner of the nest: Eurasian harvest mouse (Micromys minutus)

I noted yesterday that I tend to want to linger so long over certain books, that I eventually mislay and then never finish them.

Well funny ol' Clotho*/Ariadne was obviously listening, as this morning I can't find my English hardcopy of Barthes' "Pleasure of Text".

IT CAN'T HAVE GONE FAR!

Once it reappears, the random notes on it may resume. Although probably not as densely as yesterday, as even I (let alone my treasured readers) would likely get tired of a rambling note every paragraph or two...

* or would it be Lachesis?

"and you've researched the name and it has no bad connotations at all, especially for people in the UK?"

"er, sure, no, none at all Mark"

"Ok, let's launch it!"

#Introduction
Hello Mastodon! My name is Pauline, 31 years old mtf.
Originally a tech support in IT I will do a professional retraining in the film industry as a camera operator and then hopefully become a chief operator. 🎥
I am fascinated by strange worlds (from Lynch to Lovecraft), I love listening to depressing music like Nick Cave or Leonard Cohen for example but I also listen happy songs believe me.
Oh and I play bass guitar and piano. 🎸🎹

There, I think I’m good! I'm looking forward to meet new people here in Mastodon!
See ya everyone ~

“I have no idea where this will lead us but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.” 🦉

25-minute analysis:

How did #UKEconomy achieve highest inflation rate and lowest growth among G7 countries?

As well as surging interest rates costing many households 100s of pounds per month?

There's austerity & COVID-19, but in end: "It's #Brexit, Stupid".

@textfiles - audio archiving question. My wife has a ton of stacks of audio tapes of south indian music and lessons she wants to digitize. Any recommendations on equipment for doing that at home that's no too challenging?

My first #introduction post ever!
My main internet site of choice for the last 12 years was #reddit, but now Im trying to find a new home because of the whole ... everything that happened there.
Learning about the #fediverse has been awesome and I really like #KBin and Mastodon so far!
Im a #gamer and primarily play #streetfighter6 at the moment.
Ive always avoided having any sort of social media presence, so its hard to feel entirely comfortable- even if it's anonymous. Well see how it goes!

As they've just published their 50th issue, I want to give a shout out to Delayed Gratification, the 'slow journalism' magazine;

I've been a subscriber for over half of its life & enjoy its quarterly look back at the news (& the strong original #journalism they publish).

If you like a (real) magazine you can get your teeth into & want to step back from the whirl of the news cycle, then DG is perfect for you.

My feeling is it is particularly #Mastodon-like magazine!

honestly the banal answer as to why meta is using activitypub is because they're trying for a bluesky competitor and couldn't be arsed to make their own federation protocol. very boring, no sky falling.

p.s. meta is bad anyway. I am aware.

#introduction
Hey! My name is Emily and I just majored in Biology in Medellin, Colombia. Throughout my studies (and before) I have been passionate about statistics and behavioral science. Looking at master programs, I found my dream field in computational neuroscience.

For the past months I've been in a rabbit hole; reading, watching, and immersing myself in this science. This is how I found Neuromatch! I am excited to meet all of you and get started on our projects.

I moved instances! Good time to refresh my #introduction. I'm Jack, and I have four #scifi novels out with one on the way. I post about #writing a lot but also scifi, #fantasy, #popculture, #currentevents (I use content warnings liberally), #gaming, #ps5, #nintendoswitch, #steamdeck, #legal stuff (I'm a reformed attorney), #music (often I'm listening to Underground Garage on #siriusxm) the #moon, #apollo, #artemis, and more. If you're a writer or a fan of writing I'd love to connect.
