When writing my #solarpunk essay to the Polish ZNAK magazine I was asked to write a section outlining the differences between the movement and #longtermism (together with #effectiveAltruism, #transhumanism and more).

I think it's important to understand what #TESCREAL (a term coined by Timnit Gebru) is and how it might be one of the dominating narratives on our future in the coming years.

A good intro could be truthdig.com/articles/the-acro , although I'm sure there are a lot more articles.

*SPOILERS* I just saw Oppenheimer, and I am appalled by the number of historical inaccuracies in it:

1. Oppenheimer only spoke in the third person. In the movie he says "I'm hankering for a ham sandwich, when he should have said "Oppenheimer is hankering for a ham sandwich".

2. Oppenheimer had a severe phobia of chairs. Yet the film confusingly shows Oppenheimer sitting in numerous chairs without screeching or sobbing.

3. Oppenheimer was married to John Wayne, but no mention of this is made.

This week Biden forgave federal student debt for 804,000 borrowers. A judge upheld the decision—proving yet again that Biden has authority to cancel student debt.

Furthermore—if we can bail out Wall Street with $10T & cancel $2.1T in billionaire taxes & cancel $800B in PPP loans—then we can cancel $1.7T in predatory student loans.

We've bailed out corporations and billionaires long enough. Let's elevate working people.

"wistful" means full of wist.

but wist, of course, no longer exists in modern English.

so wistful is an adjective that has lost its noun form, and can only think back on it with a fond sense of melancholic loss and yearning...

Prosecutors have accused a Florida journalist of violating the CFAA anti-hacking law to obtain and leak un-aired Tucker Carlson clips that embarrassed Fox News. Attorneys for Timothy Burke say he hacked nothing, and that the clips were publicly available and unencrypted.

Mark Rasch, one of the attorneys on Burke's defense team, says prosecutors are using a “novel and unsupported” interpretation of the CFAA to assert a crime that doesn’t exist under the law and justify the raid on Burke's home office. Rasch understand the CFAA better than most. He's a former federal prosecutor who helped craft CFAA. I looked into the case:

The "chatgpt book banning 🙀" thing going around is obviously catnip but...I implore you, read beyond the headline. This isn't a bunch of chatgpt-naives excited about a new tool for censorship. This is a district stuck complying with a new state law banning books. They could not realistically read them all in time and were looking for a defensible process to stay in compliance with a law they frankly don't seem excited about complying with. Lots of reasons to think they're the good guys: 1/

I know I'm not meant to have favourites, but The Barefoot Sub's incredible 'backstage girl' piece is one of my favourites from this year - the scenario, the tone, the creative humiliating cum-play at the end... all of it trips a lot of my filth switches.

#SarahMyersWest & I unpack what Open Source AI even is.

We find that the terms ‘open’ & ‘open source’ are often more marketing than technical descriptor, and that even the most 'open' systems don't alone democratize AI.
