… surprisingly many characteristics of the brain follow a lognormal distribution. “One reason why it may be very common in nature is because it emerges when taking the product of many independent variables,” says Alexander van Meegen, joint first author of the study. In other words, the lognormal distribution arises naturally as a result of multiplicative processes, similar to how the normal distribution emerges when many independent variables are summed.

What should I dream about? I will abide by the results of this poll.

With this one, while I really like the composition, I sadly missed the focus quite a bit. Not sure why.

Also the scan has this weird vertical line going through it. I'll have to check whether the camera did that or the scanning process. It shows up in most shots from this batch and has be slightly worried.

Revisiting https://third-bit.com/2022/12/29/the-fourth-tradition/ after a couple of comments from someone I shared it with: I don't think there would be any less
"real programming" (whatever that means) in a practice shaped by the humanist tradition than in one shaped by the mathematical, engineering, and scientific traditions. In particular, I don't think it's possible to understand the software in large or long-lived software systems without the fourth tradition.

Fantastic response from the #WGA to the CEO’s first, and very weak, offer. This is how labor stays strong and doesn’t bend to the usual tactics.

A few months ago I saw a picture of this weird computer made of wood. I went to LA to meet the guy who made it, and found a new vision for how we build and use gadgets. And, of course, to play with the wood computer! https://www.theverge.com/23841276/mythic-computer-keegan-mcnamara-pc-builder

@Azuaron @cstross There was never a time when the NF were seen as the respectable face of British fascism. They were always, consistently viewed as what they were, violent thugs, who fused white supremacy with football hooliganism and cocaine. The whole reason the BNP became a thing was to try to give the NF the appearance of a legitimate political party. They could, rightly, never shake the old NF image, and they had to take over UKIP before they could bring their message to the mainstream

During the Jan. 6 attack I was on the House floor when rioters broke through the doors and breached the Capitol.

I heard glass breaking and pounding on the doors and I texted Aly, who was seven months pregnant with our second son at the time, "Whatever happens, I love you."

That day is one of many, many reasons I know Ted Cruz has got to go. His MAGA extremism is bad for Texas and our country, and it's time to hold him accountable.

I'm running to replace Ted Cruz and give Texans the senator we deserve, and I hope you'll join my team, Ted. Here's the link to make a gift and help build our grassroots movement -- any amount you can spare is truly appreciated: https://go.colinallred.com/8211
