Gravity-Defying Stoat.

There aren't many of these mustelids on Mull, so I was surprised and amused to see one out in the open, bouncing down the road towards me one day.

It seemed pre-occupied with a piece of bark that had fallen from one of the forestry trucks, and was playing with it for a while, before leaping around manically, and then vanishing into the undergrowth.

I’m an editor at Gannett. I manage 4 reporters and lead the investigative and data work at the Asbury Park Press in NJ.

This week, I’m on mandatory furlough.

I appreciate the time with my family, but it is a truly horrid time of year to take away a portion of anyone’s salary.

I make $70K a year. I’m grateful for it. But I’m a single dad with two kids. It hurts.

The employees of this company deserve better. At the very least, they deserve to be paid what the company agreed to pay them.

Hi. I’m new here. I studied math (MA, UCSB) and a math education (PhD, UW-Madison), and I was a math professor (Cal Poly SLO). Now I’m a math tutor and artist. For years, I focused on stitching geometric structures with seed beads and thread. I wrote tutorials for over 60 designs; most are in my Etsy shop, gwenbeads, along with art I make.
