Welcome to my Mastodon profile! I am an artist and illustrator who loves to paint spontaneous concepts by imagination or reference. I draw my inspiration mainly from my environment, experiences, and other artists.

I apply either digital or traditional tools but lately, I focus more on traditional techniques so I decided to post this second introduction, highlighting some of my recent aquarelle, ink, and pencil artworks. 🦋 🌿

My new alien planetarium co-presenter went down so well yesterday, really engaged with the younger children on their solar system tour.
He remembered all his lines and was highly entertaining, so I hope he chooses to hover about for quite a while.🤞
😀

He does this when I come in, which is super cute. I almost never fall over him. #cats #catsofmastodon

Marianne North traveled to 6 continents & 17 countries, painting exotic plants in remote & hazardous jungle environments… all while travelling alone in Victorian dress in the 1800s.

North depicted over 1,000 scientifically accurate pitcher plants, orchids, ferns & more. Her oil paintings introduced botanists to multiple previously unidentified species & several are named after her.

Her art has its own gallery at Kew Royal Botanical Gardens. artsandculture.google.com/stor #women #history #art #science

Perfect level of snowiness this morning. Enough #snow for everything to be white and beautiful, enough to require shoveling the driveway (my favorite #winter exercise), but no so much that schools were cancelled. Well done, #Vermont. It’s already above freezing though, so enjoy it while it lasts. #WinterWonderland #HereForWinter

“You haven't had #COVID19? You're lucky!”

My “luck”:
Two concerts, two movies in theaters & one conference in three years (all masked).
I haven't eaten in a reasonably crowded restaurant in three months.
I've worn a mask 100% of the time in airports, planes, transit & retail.
I've eaten outside on 50F/10C evenings to avoid inside dining.
I got every jab as soon as possible.
I've monitored COVID conditions and adjusted behaviors to match.
I canceled one vacation due to a COVID surge.
“LUCK!”

I graduated from art school in the early 80s. I was going to be a fantasy illustrator. My artwork was too weird and busy. Not very commercial. I am grateful I found my way as an artist earning a living. I have learned it is best not be "set" on anything and go with the flow.

Drawing my way out of a funk. Might turn these into stickers.

Here is an instrument I invented, play and write for.

It's a Bamboo stalk with 8 strings spiraling around it.
Played with a bow it sounds something like Cello with a more harmonic rich tone.

It's pretty tall, about 6 and a half feet in height.

Maria Skog guarantees her orange slices, turkey, and eggs won’t spoil. She crochets fiber-based creations with preservation in mind, ensuring that every berry and bagel stays as fresh as the day they were made. #crochet #food

The newest members of my family now have proper names! 😺 😺

I'd like you to meet Finnegan & Phoebe (or Queen Phoebe, as she prefers). These names kept popping into my head during the adoption process, but I wasn't sure they'd fit their personalities. Turns out they're not only perfect, but they actually respond to the names!

Maybe these two were telepathically sending me their preferred names all along... 😳 😄

"Harts Hill Tree". An ink transfer made using synthetic Yupo "paper". The ink can be manipulated quite easily on this material, sort of like a polaroid transfer can be manipulated before drying. The downside to this is that the ink never fully dries and remains in a perpetual state of tackiness. After a few months, I give it a few coats of a protective spray which helps. #AlternativeProcess #PrintMaking

🧩If you’ve been tackling a jigsaw puzzle during the winter evenings, have you ever wondered about their origins? Jigsaws date back to the 1700s.

Many educational toys were developed in the 18th century as people recognised that play was a way for children to learn #toys #jigsaw #puzzles #18thCentury

I was thrilled to receive a notice that a buyer from Vermont had purchased a framed print of my sunset behind the snow-covered Woodburn Hall at #WVU in #Morgantown. A good start to the year! #BuyIntoArt #AYearForArt #Success #Wallart
