Sometimes you see negativity directed against people who “collect hobbies”, that is: people who have an interest for a short while, get the stuff they need to try it, and then seemingly abandon those supplies.
This might be tied to a shame about wasting something (money, potential, time). But as a fellow collector I want to say: don’t think like that! Every interest migh cycle around and when it does you get much more fun out of it if you already have the supplies.

Physicist John Tyndall is often credited with discovering the greenhouse effect, which he wrote about in 1859.
But female scientist Eunice Foote published a paper - 3 years earlier - demonstrating how atmospheric water vapor & CO2 affected solar heating. She theorized that heat trapping gases in Earth’s atmosphere warm its #climate.
Tyndall was widely read. And Foote, being a woman, wasn't even permitted to present her own work. https://www.climate.gov/news-features/features/happy-200th-birthday-eunice-foote-hidden-climate-science-pioneer #history #science #ClimateChange

Not quite a snicket.
I'm not a great lover of using my phone for photography, but I recently found out that I can use the LR app as a camera - I'll try again...

Tiny alluvial fan forming from erosion clay (mostly) from glacial deposits on the North Shore of Long Island. Coastal geology is fun!
This is how you review an antisemitic, transphobic, piece of shit video game: you roast it in the review and turn the buy link into a donation to Trans Lifeline.

I am crying in frustration. GRC conferences are known for their notorious time commitment and that the whole point is to be a week away in “adult summer camp” however babies cannot be in the sessions. So either I leave my baby for a week and try to pump enough milk for that. Or I bring them and pay for a nanny for 12hrs each day because there is no daycare on site. What the fuck does a junior assistant professor with a baby supposed to do
This is a pretty neat collection of yarn colors — for anybody who’s in to #amigurumi and wants to represent #diversity in their #crochet or #knitting work, check out Skein Tones! It’s a Lion Brand yarn. The attached photos are from a marketing email from JoAnn.

But I looked them up anyway in my dictionary of choice because most of copy editing is looking up compounds you're pretty confident about and being surprised.

I chose Kathleen Lonsdale DBE FRS (neé Yardley, 1903-1971) for #printerSolstice prompt shape because she solved a longstanding #chemistry conundrum of the shape of benzene & her drawing of electron density for hexachlorobenzene (green) & model of hexamethylbenzene explore shape in different forms. Her husband said, “Before prison it might have bothered her to go to Buckingham Palace. Afterwards, Holloway or Buckingham Palace were all the same.”
With a popular instance announcing that it's shutting down, you may be thinking of running your own Mastodon server instead of finding another. You should know that it's not all that easy! It's significantly more complicated than, say, running a WordPress blog.
That said, I've been doing it for a few months now, and in January I put together a list of things I've learned in the process. If you're thinking of going down this road, you may want to take a look there, along with the articles I linked to, and also check out the #MastoAdmin hashtag for tips from other admins.
Good luck! ☺️
