Frozen in Time: Lake Inari, Finland.

Lake Inari is the third-largest lake in Finland, located in the northernmost part of Finnish Lapland. I took this photo in March, when the lake was completely frozen, allowing our group to traverse the lake on cross-country skis.

The lake boasts thousands of islands, one of which we were fortunate enough to rent a hut on. For an entire week, we had the entire island to ourselves. To access fresh water, we had to break through the ice on the lake and collect it in a bucket. We even had a wood-fired sauna there!

The red-bellied woodpecker, Melanerpes carolinus. I see and hear these pretty woodpeckers all of the time, one of my favorite neighbors! The male has red from the beak all the way back.

Every 2 weeks, I set up a stool in the kitchen to give my son a haircut. Today before I really got started, he had his eyes closed and was smiling softly to himself. As I combed out his curls, I ask why he is smiling. He said it's because he just likes it when I do his hair. 😍
