Ah, you meant if I can't replace tha glass, though? No, it's just the substrate for the e-ink. As such it carries conductive structures that are now broken and that I can't create (that would require a whole lab with deposition apparatuses, photolithography and lots of basic chemistry).

You'll need a diamond cutter, a plier for cleaving and a some exercise.
It depends a lot on the glass thickness. One thing you can do for practice: buy a pack of microscope carrier slides and cut a bunch. They're usually 1mm thick. For other thicknesses, get a glass sheet of about that thickness and practice.

@freeschool No, it broke and that was what made the funny shape on screen.
My tip: if unsure, before doing anything, consult www.ifixit.com @iFixit@hostux.social and check if there's a teardown, repair guide or forum entry.
Other than that: after device 3 or 4 you get a knack how much force is okay and what to watch out for. Your worst enemies are those little plastic clips that come off easily.
If, however, anyone has an otherwise broken Kindle 3 (~2010) with a working display, let me know as well!

The glass backside of the display module shattered. Bummer. Replacements are hard to come by.
If anyone needs a mainboard or even a battery (1750mAh, 3.7V), let me know.

The way some people fantasize about solving our large scale systemic transport CO2 emissions problems (like drawing fantasy train maps of Europe or drooling about some AI-car future) reminds me of a scene in Breaking Bad.
They're cooking meth in an RV in the desert and their generator's fuel ran out. Then they realise that their RV's starter battery ran out, too. So the pump petrol from the tank into the generator, inevitably spilling some. When they start the generator, it catches fire due to the spilled fuel.
Walter (asshole but boring and planning things) reaches for the CO2 fire extinguisher, which takes a moment but will extinguish the fire leaving the generator intact.
Jesse however (impulse driven and what reminds me of the fantasy people), reaches for their water supply (that they need to stay hydrated in the desert) and splashes it over the generator (rendering its electrics useless).
Both propose a solution to an urgent problem. One is clearly getting them in a lot of trouble however.

Ich sympathisiere stark mit Inhalten der Grünen. Was mich massiv abhält auch nur über eine Stimme nachzudenken: Diese Obsession mit obskurem Shit wie #Homöopathie oder #Energieautarkie.
Das kann man doch nur als Obsession bezeichnen...

Ein *autarkes* deutsches Energiesystem wird es nicht geben, weil es nicht funktioniert. Punkt.
Ein diversifiziertes Energiesystem, bei dem kein einzelner Partner stark genug ist, Erpressung zu betreiben wird gehen und muss das Ziel sein. Ohne Fossile ist selbstverständlich. Aber beerdigt dieses Unwort Autarkie!

Aber trotzdem interessant, dass RU offenbar das Kind (Erpressung mit Gas) beim Namen nennt. Insofern müssen gewisse Personen wohl tatsächlich Farbe bekennen.
