@Blaine@troet.cafe Stimm!

This is going to get ridiculous. We'll see "record high temperatures" over and over and over again this year.

But don't let the monotony obscure the suffering that comes with this high heat. Many, many plants and animals will die, along with humans, by the hundreds if not thousands.

I'm starting to think the evidence that will be left by our age in the geologic record will be a layer of plastic.

I wonder if that biome (or parts of it) won't be the doom of plastic use wherever it is exposed to the environment. If it feeds of plastic, it should degrade any plastic in principle, right?
@plastisphere

There's a lot of plastic. Both on land and in the oceans.

Finding ways to break down that plastic, particularly via bioremediation, is an important field of study.

Chinese researchers have been investigating the coastal salt marshes in Jiangsu and have found dozens of bacterial and fungal species deemed a "plastisphere microbiome" capable of plastic breakdown.

As a matter of fact, companies pay people to collect (incomplete) data and calculate how much more ecological it is to use the plastic spoon. 🙄

Don't look at the flooding in Vermont.
Don't look at the flooding in Spain, India, or Japan either.
