In quite moments during the holiday I started an open design for a CNC mill that:

- Fits within a 1200mm x 1200mm x 600mm footprint (~4' x 4' x 2')
- Has a cutting envelope of 700mm x 300mm x 200mm XYZ (~2.3' x 1' x 0.6')
- Easily cuts mild steel and can take light cuts on stainless
- Uses a fully FOSS workflow including FreeCAD and LinuxCNC
- Avoids vendor lock-in
- Works with single phase 220

I'm aware this often didn't work over at the birdsite, but here's an idea that (for now) ought to work here

When you read a toot *start* with the assumption that the person who wrote it knows what they're on about - and keep that in mind when replying

If there is a link in it, follow it, and see if that answers the point you thought you wanted to make

If you've considered both of those points, you're less likely to end up as a mansplainer in your replies to people 👏

You see that thin line of light? That's the edge of the atmospheric skin surrounding our planet. All the climate occurs in that little collection of gases, and that's what we're flooding with greenhouse gas contaminants.

M23 rebels in eastern DR#Congo engaged in heavy clashes with rival militias on Thursday, local sources said.

The year's end message to Germany's thousands of "Scientists for Future" starts with a quote by international Jewish poet Rose Ausländer: "Do not forget / friends / we are travelling together". It announces an S4F conference in Hannover May 12-14, and takes critical stock of the German government's disappointing lack of progress, reiterating how critically important this parliamentary period to 2025 is - it cannot be wasted.

I heard someone from a prominent CO₂ removal (#CDR) project say that natural #weathering of silicate rocks currently removes 1 GtCO₂ per year. This is false.

The weathering of ALL THE ROCKS in the world removes 0.924 GtCO₂ per year (41% from silicates and 59% from carbonates).

It's important that we agree on the basics.

OK, so now my photo workflow is more or less sorted, I am starting to upload a selection of my #CrossBorderRail pictures to Flickr - and license them for re-use

It’s Schadenfriday, so I pretty much had to write about Andrew Tate. But to many who didn’t know much about him until recently, there’s quite a lot to unpack. We can all breathe a little easier knowing he’s finally facing serious legal consequences. I explain in today’s piece.
