@fabyk@hessen.social Wieso kocht das gerade wieder so hoch? Das ist doch seit Jahren bekannt...

There has been a wave of research in that direction over the last 5-10 years or so, and it's great to see that 'trickling down' into the public debate. So much for research being useless and removed from "real life" 🙂

A small sign of how the discourse is changing: German national TV has prepared a documentary on how much the rich contribute to climate change, how little they care about it, asking whether we can still afford that. 👏

Life hack: If they try to sell you "endless"/"unlimited" anything, it's most likely a scam.

Example: Fusion energy is dubbed "unlimited" energy. Nevertheless, it's unclear if the heavy Hydrogen, needed for fusion, is abundant (not unlimited) on earth or if it will be made from Lithium. And *even if* we get it from "tha moooooon", it might be abundant (not unlimited) but not free (as in cheap).

Did you know you can easily transform your LAN-to-USB-C adapter into two? One LAN-to-PCB and one PCB-to-USB-C adapter!

@Fischblog

Perfect security is challenging for the average user; we need to decide what level of privacy we need and are comfortable with. This is called threat modelling. Security is a precondition to privacy.

How determined are you to protect your privacy?

What makes a program secure? 🤔

It has to be audited, checked, and corrected. Free Software allows more people to audit. More people are allowed to read the code and discover vulnerabilities.

Ultimately #FreeSoftware creates a culture where people are ready to answer to criticism on systems and software. However there is Free Software that is not audited too so its security is not confirmed. (2/3)

I see that people with hearing aids are kind of panicky about their hearing aids.. There's someone at my place now who's slightly hard of hearing, so she's got hearing aids. When I needed her to help me a little bit with something outdoors, she was like nonono, it's raining and my hearing aids shouldn't get wet!

I said there was a simple solution then, just take them off for a bit. Oh nonono, she couldn't possibly do that. They need to stay on!

Wtf? They're just hearing aids, man. It's not like your life depends on them. I'm frigging deaf, I'm living proof that not being able to hear isn't going to hurt you. Let alone not being able to hear for 5 minutes. :P

I kind of remember this bit from my own past when I still wore hearing aids. 90% of my time was spent worrying if the battery was still full enough for me to hear something. Fucking things, I should've gone fully deaf sooner.

@computertruhe Nein, nein!

@ufz
