…’net zero’ is a con. It says we don’t need to change anything except where we derive our energy from. It creates an imagined space to keep doing what we’re doing as long as people in low income countries are paying the price.
That’s bullshit. We do need to change. A lot. And biophysics will keep telling us until, eventually, we listen
Whenever I read the term #netzero, such as within https://mastodon.energy/@CarbonBubble/111177322950558658, a part of me winces at the marketing buzz phrase dishonesty of it.
It’s possible I’ll live to see 2050. I’m willing to bet that even if we suddenly start taking the challenge seriously in a way that meets these kind of 4x criteria, we’ll be nowhere close to a zero of anyone’s definition. But by then we will have taken to heart the existential imperative of living a *low carbon* lifestyle
…our media can’t talk in terms of “low carbon” because it would very quickly become painfully obvious that there’s a container ship fleet of stuff we can’t do that we’re still doing. And there’s only so much cognitive dissonance we can stomach. And so, the snake oil of “net zero” it is.

Just been told this is the case because of how Rail Europe cannot make all the API calls it would like to.
Ok then, some rail firm (DB by the look of it) is being nasty to them. It prevents Rail Europe offering full price comparison.
How do we fix this? EU law (MDMS) to oblige operators to free up their data. Because if they don’t customers lose out.

German theoretical physicist Max Plack died #OTD in 1947. Planck made many contributions to theoretical physics, but his fame rests primarily on his role as originator of the quantum theory. This theory revolutionized our understanding of atomic and subatomic processes, just as Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity revolutionized our understanding of space and time. He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1918. via @Britannica
