@neil I was a parent governor for 9 years and it's rewarding and insightful. Done right, Governors are a critical friend to the school and a really useful partner to the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team. The CE school is just a brand, to an extent. The educational "values" from the national curriculum, and other guidelines, are what you will be monitoring.

'Postscript: the Department for Education is currently recruiting a videographer, primarily to film the education secretary, Gillian Keegan – for a salary of £48,701 a year. Michael Gove sent every state primary and secondary school in England a King James Bible (“funded by philanthropists” to the tune of £375,000). An oak-framed portrait of the king for every school is costing £8m.'

Love Ridley Scott's films, but have to say that is a sadly glorious mess. So many characters and situations randomly thrown at the screen, I felt I understood the period of history and man less than when I went in. Realistically, this should have been a series.

So to compensate I'm watching Waterloo (1970) with the amazing Rod Steiger.

@UnconventionalEmma Heh, they're the only outlet that covered this story! Lots of other news providers that are bound to this way of presenting articles. Shame, as in ye oldern days, the telegraph were one of the first newspapers to move to regular, searchable online content.

Watching a mutual ask for printer recs and receive a chorus of tired tech folk going "Just get a Brother, they're fine" and man

MAN

Like this is actually kinda fascinating honestly, Brother is now the best printer brand, the one that every Computer Person recommends, and is it because their printers are good? Their printers are fine, they print, whatever, no, it's because everybody else's printers have gotten Innovated out the wazoo, every innovation making them way worse, until it's gotten to the point where I wouldn't have one in the house even if it were free, and meanwhile Brother's have remained consistently Fine I Guess, which now makes them the best printer manufacturer simply by virtue of them opting out of the Who Can Get Crappiest Fastest race

Brother have gotten to where they are now, by NOT innovating

recommendation: The Curse. Cutting satire on gentrification (so far). Excellent understated performances from the stars and the background characters, gives it a real documentary feeling.

Should have looked closer. The second photo above was some gorgeous pastries, also a staple of BA cafes.
This is what a cabinet of empanadas looks like. NB: they are not at all the same as Cornish Pasties.

I can understand people who are frustrated with the current political situation in their country.

But I’ll never understand people who don’t realize things can get even worse.

One thing I really miss about is Alfajores and Empanadas. In BA there would be shops with rows and rows of these, all different varieties, but here they're usually presented as greasy tiny dumplings. Found Chango just off Bond Street in , and these are *really nice*.
Any Porteños need to pay attention - you would clear up.

Still waiting for my landlord to show me this year's Black Friday rent deals.

Most of Xmas shopping done, and a decent amount of wrapping also completed. Which means it's time to unwrap the festive !

Bit early for for my liking but this arrangement of "Away In A Manger" is quite lovely. Different harmonies to what most of us are used to.

When I tell him
that last week the virus took
more than a thousand lives
and that it was
the tenth week in a row
where so many died
he shrugged
and said that every week
thousands of people die
and I suppose
where we disagree
is that I think we should try
to reduce that number.

Perfectly normal morning news for .
The President-elect goes to meet the incumbent at the official residence. Nothing unusual there, but the journey through the city is typically bonkers.

Milei is in a small convoy of couple of ordinary hatchbacks, accompanied by press paparazzi on motorbikes with their phones attached to the top of thir helmets, and at one point a drone flying through the streets.

In traffic, he jumps out of the car for a moment to shake hands with some kids on a school bus.

At another point, one of the motorbikes dives in front of traffic to cross the avenue ahead of the convoy, and as the horns blare, is reminded by the hosts to be careful.
