Too many Bad News, can't stand looking at my fave news sites lately.

Time for some nice Cat pictures? This one just found on FB, by Ines Dias from Portugal. Great looking kitty.

@LittleWytch I really enjoyed reading this on your profile yesterday, glad to have an insighful and interesting person on board. Thank you!

@LittleWytch The closest thing to FB is Friendica, which is pretty interesting, very rich, I have an account but haven't explored it as I should -- got busy with Mastodon instances and all the new things to explore here.

There are a few Friendica nodes, less than mastodon ones. I would recommend the one I have my account on, its called Nerdica -- https://nerdica.net

I am https://nerdica.net/profile/rgx/profile

@Sphinx A lot of people are losing their jobs and it's hurting. Hopefully governments come thru quickly as promissed -- the health impact is bad, the economic one could also be quite serious.

Central banks everywhere did act really quickly, which is an indicator that it's a serious scenario. Good luck, Sphinx!

@peterdrake Amazing, thank you for posting it!

@iankenway I saw it earlier on The Guardian, and it's a pity. His columns were very good, well explained and practical advice always.

RIP, Jack. 😔

@LittleWytch LOL, yes, really!! 😜

#BlackCats are wonderful. Miss my kitties...

Cats, Books, Bicycles, much fun to be had and keep me away from the #news for a while...

@obi The filter depends on the Toot itself having its language identified -- it it is in Spanish but there's no other flag, it will assume it's English and display it. So, not fool proof, but that's all the control we have.

@Sphinx @Nacor It's the original and most elegant accent for English.

Although within Britain itself there's regional variations, and in some cases the speech of the locals is pretty hard to follow (Northern England for example, has influences from way back when the Danish and Viking invaders came and set up new homes there).

@obi If you use the Languages control in the mastodon user panel and only select the ones you can at least partially understand, the filtering should apply to any posts you see in other instances -- as long os mastodon identifies the language of the post correctly.

There's no other controls for that, but it should work everywhere, I think.

@Beznell @LittleWytch We host a PeerTube instance right here at Qoto.org, besides various other goodies (Discourse Forum, video, music sharing, Git hub).

https://video.qoto.org/ , you will need to create an account there as the Mastodon account doesn't give access to the other services. Have fun! 😃

@obi Oh, that particular instance is Zero posts for me too. Been filtered this way since I started here.

@LittleWytch

@LittleWytch Welcome to Qoto, it's nice to read your impressions, specially coming from someone who has looked at other instances and perceives the differences. 😃

The large post size limit is indeed nice, and something I value and had campaigned for. Alas, many admins are Twitter veterans, used to the terse (and many times opaque) short posts and don't see a need for more.

The lead developer of Mastodon included, unfortunately - he refuses to make it easier to keep a customized larger size for maximum characters limit, burying it in various lines in different files in the source code -- making it laborious for admins every time a new update come around.

@obi @LittleWytch

Yes, LittleWytch beat me to it -- was searaching from a post I wrote documenting that.
