@globcoco

The Filters I mentioned are in the Preferences of Mastodon itself -- and I have a good post with detailed instructions, handy for anyone who doesn't like Cat photos.

Makes me feel better, as I am not forcing anyone to see mine -- and provide an easy way out for anyone not interested. it's here :

@compass_straight_edge I am glad you like it -- join us.

We will consider requests to add a new section, as long as there is an interest and someone who will take the lead as Content Provider for that area.

If you are passionate about some special area, software or project, it can be done.

Mine is the new Pinafore Client subforum,

@Lyudmila @mikelalasmuto@mastodon.social Hola, buenos días, empezando la ronda. :cupofcoffee:

@zleap

It does take a toll on us sometimes. But we are doing the Good Work, so take a minute and recharge. Your contribution is appreciated, Paul.

There's a lot of interests, commercial, government, political, etc behind many things. Speaking up and bringing your views has an impact.

@freemo @globcoco @schestowitz

@baschi29 Glad you asked -- I love Write.freely, and Coralie is also a user, so lots of opinions and experience here.

A full listing of WF nodes is here : fediverse.network/writefreely?

This is sorted by Users, larger first. The offered conditions do vary -- so it pays to read a bi and shop around.

I do use a couple.

My tech blog is at TeDomum.net, a French instance, I like it. But they only allow one Blog. Maybe that's ok for most people, and less complicated.

If more than one Blog (say, separated by themes -- photo, poetry, travel, etc) is considered, then visiting the instance and seeing their terms is the way to find the best.

I do recommend Wordsmith.social -- they allow up to 10 blogs, per user, which is very generous.

Stay away from the largest instance on that list, write.as -- as they need to cover their company costs, and the only offered free service is very limited, a single one. And then all are added costs, monthly.

Good luck, and ask any questions if you like.

There's also Plume, which is similar to WF, but has some differences. I have an account but prefer WF, for aesthetic reasons. For a new user though, Plume offers in-instance image hosting, something that makes it easier for them if they want to use images in their pages.

@globcoco anything to add ?

users, hello.

I have been reading the posts from this hashtag and collect some information for a new Forum post I am preparing.

Here at Qoto.org we now have a new Pinafore Discussions Forum, at our Discourse forums. I am the one who asked for it, since we have the forum in place and thought it could be useful to all users.

Question -- I collected a list of 4 independant instances of Pinafore, from posts made here earlier.

These instances are at todon.nl, x0r.be, cybre.space and brap.party.

With the two that Nolan runs, the normal one and the dev version, that's 6 on my list.

Any other instances, with public access granted, that you know of?

My post on this subject is here :

discourse.qoto.org/t/listing-o

The Forums are publicly readable, responding requires an account login, which is open, free signup.

Thank you for any possible hints, comments.

@hansw I understand the use case, yes.

And I think I have a better suggestion -- instead of posting the full content here, maybe a static webpage with the encrypted content.

And a message/toot here with a pointer to it.

This assumes the content is larger in size than the URL and justifies the effort.

Only curious people (who can't decipher it) or the intended recipients (who can) would see and use that short URL post. Minimal transfer and storage to achieve the desired results, I would think.

Again, I am speaking my opinions, but there could be people out in Fedi irked by transport and storage of undecypherable content.

@hansw The question is -- undeciferable content is worthless to anyone not having the decryption keys.

As I mentioned, a personal person to person message, here called a Direct Message or DM, that would be fine with encryption use. No complaints from me or other people.

Sending encrypted stuff on a public channel, copied all over the world -- that is a huge waste of transport and storage, imo.

@hansw Same toot, viewed via Pinafore at source, light formatting, includes H2 header.

@hansw just seached and took as snapshot.

This post from earlier today -- it shows here stripped off formatting, although I am happy the links are preserved properly.

muensterland.social/@rgx/10434

@hansw And you can see the Bolded text on this mastodon server?

The ones I do with formatting, they would look plain text here.

They do benefit in some ways -- mastodon preserves the non-naked URLs as intended in my original posts.

@hansw Text passing thru? If it was in a DM, I don't see any problem.

Otherwise, to copy Encrypted text which one recipient can open, all over the world's servers is a huge waste of processing and storage space.

ProtonMail would do and not waste any resources.

@hansw >> If we now could only have a filter to simply drop messages that are posted in bold chars 😉

?? We don't get Bold or Italics formatting here, MastodonT do that.

Best I can do is a screenshot of a Markdown tailored post made elsewhere. 🙂

Or maybe you are referring to FULL CAPS ? (which are as awful as trump, agreed)

Public Service Announcement -- for Non-Cat Lovers

A gentle reminder that although cats are tremendously popular in the Fediverse (and all over the internet), I do recognize there's people who don't enjoy to see batches of feline photos coming from some users (me, others).

Fear not, dear Reader -- I have prepared a nice and detailed Guide to Filter out all those Posts of Cats I make.

See it right at the Top of my profile - or via this link :

qoto.org/@design_RG/1040086342

A little bit of work in the Preferences panel and all those pesky posts will not show for you anymore.

And the same skill applies to all kinds of other annoyances. Suggested tags ?

biden biden2020 trump trump2020 uspol etc.. enjoy.

for the

@hansw Yes, fully agreed. I have some filters to hide Freemo's Biden and US pol posts as well.

Which are not even pretty like the cats.

@hansw Thank you, Hans -- and I am glad we have the filters so I am not annoying you. I have lots of people who Favourite an Boost my cat posts, and add following, so there's interest.

With the Filters guide, I felt relieved to provide a way out if needed. 🙂

@hansw Pinned Post at top of his profile, even. First Class service, I say.

@hansw LOL...

>> Another example of following someone and not seeing his cat posts 🙂

Good thing the user in this case is kind enough to provide a Filters, HowTo eh?
