@globcoco Pretty amazing, isn't it -- considering the whole idea of their main project is a tool for writers.

But programmers tend to think that things are obvious -- because they worked on then for so long, they assume they are. Wrongly, in most cases.

I see that everywhere - and I did some programming, taught some too, but I am not consumed into it like people leading a project can be sometimes.

The User manual that Ange wrote was the first one I ever found -- about two weeks after having to learn it without any references or manuals, but I think Docs are important so I jumped into translating hers.

The ideal project team will have people from various backgrounds, with leaders, newer programmers, documentation and user experience specialists.

I have received a DM consultation inquiring if I would like to join a Tech company, recently, based on my work here which they saw. Higher level, executive role even. 😄

**And Here's Another of Those Designer Ideas, by RG...**

A preview only but it's looking nice, and I will be gladly sharing it soon on the Follow on Friday feature posts.

A list of Feline lover and cat posting accounts all over Fediverse, including some I had never seen, courtesy of my good friend @realcaseyrollins -- Thank you!

Discouse Forum is a pretty way to organize information, I will have to think on what's the best way to provide as much within the limits of a Toot in Mastodon -- or better, in my GlitchSocial account.

I am reading an article thanks to @design_RG !
And in this article, it talks about how technology has impacted our brain functions.
And this is not only technology as we know it.
The use of clock for example has influenced us in ways that changed how we relate to our own rythm and action.

I'm leaving here a small part of this great article extracted from theatlantic.com/magazine/archi and send to me by @design_RG :

>In Technics and Civilization, the historian and cultural critic Lewis Mumford described how the clock “disassociated time from human events and helped create the belief in an independent world of mathematically measurable sequences.” The “abstract framework of divided time” became “the point of reference for both action and thought.”

>The clock’s methodical ticking helped bring into being the scientific mind and the scientific man. But it also took something away. As the late MIT computer scientist Joseph Weizenbaum observed in his 1976 book, Computer Power and Human Reason: From Judgment to Calculation, the conception of the world that emerged from the widespread use of timekeeping instruments “remains an impoverished version of the older one, for it rests on a rejection of those direct experiences that formed the basis for, and indeed constituted, the old reality.” In deciding when to eat, to work, to sleep, to rise, we stopped listening to our senses and started obeying the clock.

@globcoco Glad you liked the article -- I felt much better after knowing I wasn't the only one having more difficulty concentrating on reading books, something I have always loved.

But, affected we are!

Pass the word, share the link, it's a good reference.

@realcaseyrollins

Thank you so much for those new accounts you suggested Casey -- I added them and the page is looking really rich.

Something we can show and enjoy -- discourse.qoto.org/t/cat-posti

@georgia@dickkickextremist.xyz

I agree, there's many out there that don't really have a vision and understanding of systems, flow, language or resource usage.

Old School people learned when system resources were precious, and mad much better code. An education was required, people didn't learn on YT.

@globcoco

@globcoco Well, you know. Programmers are really good at coding.

Not at writing good user documentation, lol -- that's where people like me could help.

I could prepare a good Blog, maybe in 2 or 3 parts, describing why GlitchSocial is indeed a lovely place to be, much better than MastoDonT .

And it would be a useful one -- as the Write.Freely manual that Ange made and I translated prove; the only documentation at the write.as site has is really short, poor an useless, mostly.

But don't despair -- and if you try it I think soon you will be missing the features in the regular mastodon instances. Like I do, here, and this is a much better one than average. (as it has extras, big too allowance, etc).

@freemo Thank you, that is wonderful!

wil lprepare an announcement and put it out later today. Cheers! 😺

@globcoco

oh, it is not. You can start using it easily, as a plain Mastodon instance, and discover the extras as you go. The instances are nice and have extras if you want to use them.

Some people will ignore anything and just post single line little toots, but there's much more if you want to look for it. Just get a test account somewhere, and play with it. If you like, you can consider it more seriously, as a work platform.

It is very enjoyable, and for us in Writing, the markdown power adds beauty and impact to the posts.

@penny

I am happy to know that, Penny -- and it's my thought too.

Freemo is really worried about losing an active poster and Staff member here, but I have my own interests to look for too.

Muensterland is my new personal instance, and I plan to use it so; it's already working for me. Everyone's experiences are different, but I am a writer and publisher and the stupid fedi blocks are getting in the way of my content.

Unacceptable, so I have thought about and now implementing my own solution.

@rgx @freemo

@freemo

The Message in the Medium, the image, was the reason for the hash linking.

I am thinking of starting a new and more personal one, as well, which I can use from the various places I operate at.

Just need a memorable and easy to use tag.

@globcoco

** Image Hosting for Forum, Mastodon and Blog Post -- Host Recommendation **

@globcoco I had to find a place to host them, as WriteFreely doesn't offer image hosting locally.

I have used different ones over the years, and back in December, when I was starting the Blog, went and spent a day looking for what's available, their features, etc.

Found PostImage.org -- and that's what I use, I love it. I can upload a file right from my File manager window..

Right-Click -- Send To -- PostImage and it takes it, uploads and gives me the URL for that image.
Copy/Paste into Blog text window.

Lovely and very productive. Simple as can be.

Here, made two screenshots, visual is always helpful -- and I will use these for my new Blogger's toolkit post when I write it.

That smaller second image, btw -- here's the URL copied from it, there's even a super handy "Copy" button right beside the URL after the upload is done.

The Small attached File is here

or, to show a naked URL :

Highly recommend this host

#QotoJournal #writers #blog #newusers #dxp

#KoyuJournal too!

And as usual, #GlitchSocial and #MarkDown Do it Much Better.

#Glitch Does what #MastoDont

@LittleWytch Yes, I think the Powers that Be like to see rioting and looting, to justify a clamp down.

@globcoco @pixelfed

And Pleroma does too. I also loved the Word Play and started using it, the idea came from this image.

@globcoco

Not that one -- But this one : glitch-soc.github.io/docs/

And - why I wanted a better instance, in long form, detailed, read when you have a chance...

write.tedomum.net/rgx/muenster

BTW -- that instance is open to signups. 😄

@pixelfed

** Finding and Using a good Image Hosting Service **

I just posted a Detailed Guide to uploading files to a Image Host, here in a reply, deep into a Thread.

It is an important and useful subject -- so I copied and expanded the post, it's on my GlitchSocial Web Publishing account -- muensterland.social/@rgx

See it Here : muensterland.social/@rgx/10432

or the plain text original here :

qoto.org/@design_RG/1043201454

...but it looks Miles better at the other place.

for me Does what

@globcoco

There might be some service with a native Linux client, I would hope -- the functionality is just tremendous.

And I just made a much prettier version of my post, at my GlitchSocial account.

Look at it : muensterland.social/@rgx/10432

...and you will see WHY I must have now... 😛

@pixelfed

@globcoco

Ok -- how to :

* Pinafore in one Tab, with Qoto selected as the active instance. Call this Tab 1.
* Pinafore in a second tab, with [other instance with less Search power] loaded as active instance. Call this Tab 2.

If you need to find something from a Text search do this :

* jump into Tab 1. Select Search.
* Do it, and you will find any results Qoto has on file. Aha -- there it is.
* click on the Dot menu on that result post
* and select "Copy link to Toot"(screenshot added here).

Now you have the URL for that relevant toot!

* jump into Tab 2, and use it.
* you can insert the URL into Tab 2 Search field
* it will retrieve the Toot, and now you can Boost, Reply, Favourite, etc.

Or simply insert the Toot URL you already got, from Tab 1, into a new post or reply in Tab 2.

Voilá, c'est ça.

---> Search Power Tips.

@freemo

@globcoco That is great.

Will love to see your work, please announce your new Blog posts here so people see them and read, follow.

A post like this one : writing.exchange/@rgx/10431534

...which I copied and reposted here at Qoto, and got lots of Boosts -- a useful Guide for Write.freely which is sorely needed.

@globcoco You are very welcome, chatting with you has been a delight, and I hope you can enjoy our instance here too.

Any good people you know and think will fit, once you get used to it a bit, they can apply for an account, we have registrations open, subject only to a few questions and answers at the front door.
