By sheer chance, I had seen an ad yesterday for someone selling their rigs in the regional online classifieds.

Not as neat as the examples above, pics attached. Asking price is CAD$1300, about 1K USD.

Cats Who Code

Visited Jeff's blog earlier this morning, to see a poem he linked to, a nice one.

Noticed a link to other post, and it's a lovely article - about operating a crypto mining at home, with off the shelf components. Which paid for itself nicely, despite what we hear about server farms being unbeatable (which is true for Bit Coin, BTC)

His setup was specifically for mining Ether, and by nature that process benefit systems using Graphics cards for the processing.

Very cool project! Glad it worked out, the hardware is exquisite. He explains it well too. 🎅

Rant of the Day.

It's unbelievable that Apple locks such basic UI feature as controlling the default icon sizes on iPhone and iPads.

I have an ipad mini, and like it's portability, it travels with me when I won't take a laptop, it's on my bag when a larger screen than a cell phone comes handy.

Now got an iPad 4 with the 9.7" larger screen, and honestly, the icons look weird, too large on it.

"That's the way it is, that's the way it always has been. 4 by 5 " is what web search tells me.

Other than a nice tool, which requires Rooting (aka jailbreaking) the device. 😔

For the record, here is the tool I mentioned, it seems a nice and basic right of a user - I have always had that in Windows, which mac people like to demean. Smoke that, Apple.

Crossposter tested and works from birdsite to Masto, as long as your fedi account instance is not on the developer's black list.

An interesting tool, maybe could be a bot-like way to bring content we like and it is not here yet.

Trying this out to see how it works, maybe useful.

Just found this site, run by a Brazilian instance admin. It promises to do crossposting two ways - from birdsite to mastodon feeds, or vice versa.

A user at another instance was commenting about having bought this exact router, and that it solved his problem with patchy coverage in some areas of his home.

That can be difficult, specially if there are solid walls, masonry or even concrete, between the router and the client devices.

I searched and found this review, read it and liked it. A fair and detailed evaluation. The router is currently VERY pricy - listed at near 300 UK Pounds.

And you really only benefit from that investment if you already have one of the few devices that are new enough to support the 802.11ax protocols, aka WiFi-6.

The design is pretty interesting, makes me think of a Death Star fighter in a Star Wars sequel. 😜

His testing measured thruput, download speed from a local server to a client, of up to 60 MegaBytes per second. That can only work with a Gigabit connection from server to router, as that thruput is already approaching 600 Mb/s.

I personally like and use wired networks for any static device; desktop, smart TV, media box, I would wire them all. But this is neat. 😃

What do you all think? A bit pricey, but it's coming.
