Happy Free Software Day!

I'm accidentally celebrating by just learning about all the cool organizations and people working on free software in India. As in, I learned about FSFI first, and then I pulled on further threads from there and found more orgs, and then I discovered on their news pages that today is FSD. 😀

FSF India fsf.org.in/ @fsfi

Swathanthra Malayalam Computing smc.org.in/ @smc

Software Freedom Law Center, India sflc.in/ @sflcin

Free Software Community of India fsci.org.in/

The FSCI don't seem to have an official account on Fedi or Diaspora, but I'm now following some individuals mentioned on their website, by just searching for their usernames on Fedi and Diaspora.

I've been using Fedilab, installed Tusky today to see if it had a feature Fedilab was missing. I assumed, bcos Tusky seems more popular, that it'll have even more cool features and customisations - but actually it seems pretty bare bones compared to Fedilab. Looks like I'd chosen the right one for me in the first place!

pandemic and pessimism

While folks in the US are going insane over how bad the situation is, is slowly catching up in numbers without even much public awareness of how dire things are getting. People are worried about livelihood and starting to crave business-as-usual, but the country is not read for business-as-usual and it looks like we'll just end up losing both economically and in terms of lives.

'Among Us' is even more fun than I expected. And the voice chat that streamers use when playing doesn't seem as necessary as I believed, text works out pretty well (though voice would definitely add to the game).

with the entire planet behind me.

Seen this several times recently: User1 opens an issue, User2 confirms it's an issue, User3 later asks about progress... and then it's stale-bot time, time to just close it as "wontfix". There may be other discussion in between, vague unspecific comments from a dev, attempted pull requests by users that are also ignored, some barely-related drama sometimes; but in the end any long-tail issue - even precise, clearly articulated ones - falls victim to the ineffable stale-bot in these projects.

stale-bot on Github projects has become the modern manifestation of "if I ignore a problem, it'll just go away, right?" type thinking.

Addicted to the Russell Howard and Jon Richardson podcast from 2007-2008, loving it. Any other retro recommendations that people might be missing out on? Stuff from before 2010 at least.
