Just FYI to everyone who uses our extra services at . I will be working on them all day so they mayu be intermitten... but will all be much faster when im done.

@Edent depends a little on your definition of a programming language. Any scripting language inside a proprietary app (Visual Basic for Applications; Google Apps Script; stuff like Maya/Autodesk are also debatably programming). AppleScript. Mathematica and Matlab. Build systems such as Xcode (you can write a swift or ObjC app, but you can't meaningfully publish it or run it on an iPhone without proprietary libraries and tools). Flash, although that's gone now. QBasic (ha!). Visual Basic?

I wish more people understood that "I want the computer to generate a natural language text that sounds like a plausible answer to a question about x" and "I want the computer to answer a question about x" are two very different problems.

@Edent also Intel and AMD microcode. Whatever runs on the Pi GPU. Apple Silicon hardware.

It's interesting -- during the development of the Amiga, artists were contracted to come in and draw impressive and demonstrative digital art using versions of the first Amiga drawing program, "Graphicraft," so early on in its development that file operations had yet to be implemented. The drawings were completed, photographed by Commodore, and then lost to the ether when the system was powered off.

It's amazing to contemplate, so groundbreaking were some of these works, carried out on a $1,295 consumer-oriented computer in 1985.

One such example is "Four-Byte Burger" by Jack Haeger, here scanned from one of the Amiga 1000's manual covers.

@mjg59 Why are keys committed to repositories at all?

Also, “inadvertently published” is blameless language (which is a good thing) for “a developer pushed it,” which means a GitHub devs have the private keys on their workstations or dev VMs.

Interesting story by @briankrebs, personally I figure I might be preaching to the #infosec choir, but I do encourage you to always plow through the various settings deep in your account info for your various providers and opt out of anything and everything you can.

For anyone in the #UK - especially if you, or anyone in your family, are #autistic, have #PTSD or young children:
📢 A siren warning sound will blast from your phone unexpectedly on the evening of 23rd April to test the government’s new ‘emergency’ alert system. It applies to Wales too, even though it's not mentioned here. Please warn others about this.

While the #CryptoWars continue, we would like to remind everyone of two very convincing facts for the pro #encryption side:

✅ 1. Encryption can't be outlawed

✅ 2. Backdoors for the good guys only are impossible

Twitter email: "You've got 157 recent notifications on Twitter. Take a look."

Me: Nah.

@Hey_Beth As I've said, and made the case for, Mastodon gets 10x reach of Twitter. 10m Mastodon users is the equivelant of 100m Twitter users. That's what professionals on Twitter need to know.
