Another great piece by @rvawonk demonstrating how “rage farming” triggers social media user engagement, which in turn maximizes the spread of mis/disinformation and profits for propagandists. To combat rage farming, stop engaging with rage-inducing content online.

This is all to show that supporting older versions of the various platforms #Firefox runs on requires significant expertise, reverse engineering, patience and generally a lot of work.

After years that an OS isn't supported anymore we have to make the decision to drop it, or we wouldn't have time to work on supporting new versions of those same platforms. 13/13

And finally let's get to #Linux. A few months back Google Maps started crashing on some machines but there wasn't a clear pattern as to what was causing it.

It was clear that Google had done something on their side. Something stupid. Putting out a piece of JavaScript that instanced TWENTY THOUSAND VARIABLES in a single function.

Still, that should have worked... 10/13

Some ideas just clicked together in the right way in my head and I realized something: Eventually on Mastodon I'm going to get told I should try out Linux by someone who was born after the first time I installed Linux

@hedders @drandrewv2 the Secret Barrister has written a very good blog on why forcing the convicted to attend their sentencing is not easy or perhaps realistic thesecretbarrister.com/2023/04 - of course that won't stop populist politicians from posturing about it

@Richard_Littler long past becoming a dominant player, with recurring monthly revenues. Little incentive to improve or innovate while the money train rolls in. They started with anticompetitive actions early - like free for students

SUSE has gone through more than its fair share of corporate restructuring, and here comes another one. opensourcewatch.beehiiv.com/p/ by @sjvn

Well, I didn't see this coming—shame on me. SUSE, one of the oldest #Linux companies, is being taken private by its majority stockholder.

@neil I have a fair amount of random USB sticks lieing around. Assume that'd be why

To explain, what's happening here is I'm taking apart an integer-based ray tracing program implementation, with the intent of rewriting it to run on an FPGA. The FPGA doesn't have enough RAM to hold a framebuffer, so conventional tri rendering would be hard, but it *might* be fast enough to raytrace every single pixel just in time to shove that pixel out the door to the HDMI port just as the HDMI display expects it. Beam-chaser ray tracing. Raychasing

To all my colleagues from #research, #science, and #humanities: Taking into account the new #nature article on #twitter's demise, please help to get a clearer picture on what this means for us scientists who are (within my reach) on #Mastodon:

15 min into #Babylon5 The Road Home and I’m loving it. Voice acting is top notch. The actress playing Delenn, Rebecca Riedy, sounds just like Mira Furlan. Also Phil LaMarr as Franklin… wow. Swear it was him. Great job! On with the show!

B5 - The Road Home

@penwing I bet you're a zip then button person. That'd explain it

Some quick non-spoilery thoughts about #babylon5theroadhome -
It’s definitely a love letter to/for long-time fans. Unexpectedly, there’s an emphasis on the humor and, expectedly, on the humanistic themes of the show. Plot, not so much.
It is NOT a place to introduce the uninitiated.
But it’s also clearly a pivot point if the the reboot gets the green light.

The Road Home was a love letter of greatest hits.

Tingle's from stupid things like B5 deploying its weapons.

Music that could have been made from the original.

Will watch again.

Best this year
