The invention of the blue LED, one of the most difficult and important inventions ever – which allowed the white LED – is some of the craziest Chad shit I have ever heard about anything. This guy is pinnacle determination holy crap.

there's been almost twenty years of work on optimizing javascript engines with JIT and complex heuristic-based GC and a wealth of feature-rich profiling and analysis tools and validation and testing frameworks for deployment and integration and syntax improvements and functional and higher-order primitives and serverside transpiled code. and it's all enabled some amazing new stuff, for example github now takes 10 seconds to display a plain text file, and you cant search properly anymore

The delay ⏳ of the #European 🇪🇺 launchers and the technical problems are only the tip of the iceberg. For every euro 💶 invested, #SpaceX is ten times more efficient, and the only way to increase #efficiency is to introduce #competition lemonde.fr/en/opinion/article/

I love this new piece from the Glasgow Penguins on the Kelvin Walkway on the West End of Glasgow. It's just pure whimsey!

#Germany is testing a four day workweek in an effort to address its labor shortage problem. People might be more willing to work if they are able to conduct personal business and spend less on childcare. #1u dw.com/en/germany-tests-four-d

Today I got a LLM running locally.

With acceleration and a four gigabyte modal, the response time is as good or better as I'd get from stealing all my data - around ten tokens / sec on a @frameworkcomputer AMD 13"

@OpenComputeDesign @ajn142 @AMS @firefox HSTS is a requirement for most security audits these days. And it's right and correct to error if TLS on public internet has broken that policy. Not sure why vendors feel that kit in my house needs to use same domain as that would apply too

@noroute @yoasif local LLM execution times can be very fast on recent consumer hardware. No need to send anywhere, just like their translation - do it all on-device.
As an example, with no optimization or GPU support, my @frameworkcomputer (AMD) generates around 5 characters/sec from a 4 gigabyte pre-quantized model.

@OpenComputeDesign @firefox still lets you past TLS warnings. Essential for things like ILO and routers. Don't know why Chrome et al don't let you.

@neil @ianbetteridge yeah, it kind of feels like the real story here was something like "grammarly hires hundreds of people for no particular reason to make investors think it's growing" and none of us noticed

companies always say "see, we need to do these layoffs because it's been a hard year and whatever" but they never explain why they put themselves in a position where one hard year means mass layoffs in the first place

Another week has passed, and you are wasting your life over frivolous things like "work" and "education". These things won't enrich you.

What's stopping you from striving to really achieve? How many hours have you put into the life affirming skill of:

Standing across the road mysteriously staring at a random person, only to completely disappear as a bus passes.

Perhaps there is a market for electric toothbrush shaped flipper zeros in Canada

Falcon 9’s first stage lands on the Of Course I Love You droneship, completing its 14th launch and landing since February 2022

Just because the rest of you have given up on this old sci fi aesthetic, doesn't mean I have to. I need it into my veins through intravenous drip please.
