9 years ago I was supporting a customer in the Philippines over a Citrix session and needed to communicate to them through the URL bar in Chrome on Windows 8 all because I couldn't find the damn start menu. Yeah, I probably looked like a scammer. Just give me a shell. #ThrowbackThursday

For all it's advantages and faults, #Mastodon was not built to be a *new* Twitter. It was built to be *not* Twitter.

I think for me to abandon Twitter entirely, I'd need more official media orgs (e..g Sky, BBC, CNN) on here, more journalists because I get a lot of my news from Twitter (esp breaking news).

Also more official bodies (e.g. UKHSA, ONS) so I can see when new official research & stats are released on e.g. Covid, the economy, etc.

And finally academic journals (e.g. BMJ, Lancet, NEJM) who I rely on for latest health research!

Will they come?

So... this morning I had more notifications waiting for me in Mastodon than I did in Twitter. And all the notifications on Twitter are people telling me Mastodon will never get enough users to matter.
