It seems odd to me - watching the shift towards video as the default medium in news stories online.

99% of the time, I don't want to watch a video. I want to read the story. I want the information.

Video is okay in support of the text of the report - but I generally want the text first & foremost. The facts, the data.

When I click a news link - and turns out it is just a video link & no text - I generally bail before the video plays.

Something which can take awhile to understand is that cybersecurity does not require absolute perfection, it requires active ecosystem hostility at every layer.

@falken which is why it’s a good idea in my opinion for a lead to be taken on demonstrating that there are no technological barriers to doing such a thing. Without that, what happens is we get more good design apps that only work on a Mac and so further entrench platform lockout. Chrome lockout is also bad, but making a web app work cross browser is easier than making a platform specific app work cross platform.

What a fun stream! We built an Emo Evee, inspired by the Lego brickhedz due out in March 😂💜

Devs: We should add a kiosk mode to make the application safer.

In this quest for independence from centralized social media, I'm wondering...does anyone still use RSS?

For any of you who do, what is the experience of using RSS in 2023? Are there any RSS apps that are pleasant to use? Sites (other than big content publishers) that publish a feed?

(Please share for visibility if you have followers who might have experience to share.)

We don't talk enough about the Amiga Mind Walker.

Escom's prototype new machine to save the Amiga line back in about 1995.

They ran out of money, so it never made it past prototyping. But look at it. LOOK AT IT.

(Apple certainly did)

Since JSON is pronounced Jason (this is an undisputed fact), I declare DNS is now pronounced Dennis.

It's not DNS
There's no way its DNS
It was DNS

Becomes....

It is not Dennis
There is no way its Dennis
Yep, it was Dennis

And here is a picture of Dennis in his natural habitat.

Read my lips:

An audio show that can only be played in an Apple player on an Apple device is not a podcast.

An audio show that can only be played in Spotify is not a podcast.

Repeat ad nauseam for any other proprietary audio show platforms.

A #podcast is an #RSS feed with enclosures of audio files which are playable across the whole ecosystem of podcast players.

Any reporter who reports on exclusive audio shows and calls them “podcasts” are doing a grave disservice to their audience.

@cstross @SwiftOnSecurity I have unearthed this exclusive glimpse of a dalek with the top case removed. It explains so much.
