A related project predicts a new microphase separation regime in inhomogeneous active #nematics by simulating the coupled #CahnHilliard, #NavierStokes, and #BerisEdwards equations. Another project develops a #FieldTheory of the #orderphobic effect, a nonspecific interaction between #transmembrane bodies anchored in a #lipid #bilayer.

It started with the Twitter lockout. 10,000 new users an hour. Almost a quarter million migrated to Mastodon in one day. The servers struggled. Remarkably, admins all over the world built up capacity in real time. New users were patient. The system held.
It's running better now. There will be more hard days ahead, but people powered social media has arrived.

Being on Mastodon for the past few days and it reminded me of the friendliness of the earlier days of the Internet, before *coughs* forced engagement, and *coughs* metrics. It's nice to feel heard and seen, and to reciprocate naturally to that. I don't mind the slowness.
@Paulos_the_fog wait so that minimum pension is about double the uk state pension? remarkable! and people of that age are considered the core demographic for Tory support, right? I never understand how anyone decides to vote for them, but every time I hear something like this I feel even more confused 😂

The Surgeons' Hall Riot happened #OTD in 1870. The Edinburgh Seven arrived at Surgeons' Hall to sit their anatomy exam and were met by a crowd of male students and several hundred onlookers who opposed of women studying medicine. Not to be deterred the women went on to sit their exam.
After not being allowed to graduate at the time the group were posthumously awarded their medical degrees from Edinburgh University in 2019.

@rastinza I do some work like you describe, and I don't know how I'd live without **git**. the version control is one thing, but to address your issue, it's extremely easy to synchronize between different copies of local repositories once your git repo is hosted somewhere
the general workflow is as follows...
* **write** code on your local system (e.g. laptop), using whatever tools you desire
* **commit** your code to your local repo for version control
* **push** those commits to a remote host (many are available, my workplace uses gitlab and I've not had a problem with that)
* `ssh` to your compute server or similar
* **pull** your commits from the remote host to the server
this works very easily for a single developer, but also scales to more complex cases where multiple folks are contributing to the code
you also get all the version control benefits of being able to see when exactly which changes were made and revert things if need be. commit messages are also great to leave your future self a comment as to why you made a certain change
there's a learning curve with git, but only minimal knowledge is needed to get started and see the benefit, so I can definitely recommend getting familiar with git!
