@mkl Thanks for your feedback. I want to start by saying our **goal** is not to maximize connectivity, that just happens to be a side effect of how we operate.

As for the quality of people, ultimately you need to judge that for yourself. I think you will find we have a happy balance of moderates both from the left and the right. Generally the more extreme end of the spectrum on left or the right tend to be absent partly because the farther left you go the more "free speech" tends to be seen as a negative. In the same sense since we enforce respectful discourse and require scientific enthusiasts or professionals we tend to not see the extreme right either. When the extreme right does meander in they tend to not last long since they arent well tolerated here.

In the end all I can suggest is you get to know the people and judge for yourself. I'd say we have more people leaning to the left than to the right so you may find it happy if you do well hovering near the more moderate middle. That said as long as you are respectful your welcome here wherever you fall.

If you do find anyone is disrespectful or bigoted please let me know, we try to act on that and while it isnt usually a huge problem from time to time people will slip in.

maybe theres someone versed in history and linguistics here:

is anyone aware of research to reconstruct/validate mythology using neighboring mythologies by representing them as ontologies like "persephone is the daughter of zeus and demeter" and searching for similar logical patterns?

to give an example, the similarity of some of the norse gods and the roman and greek gods is accepted. i wonder if there might be other hidden similarities to be found by comparing those things systematically. the _concepts_ these mythological systems had might be much more old than either of those specific myths. i'd venture that at least for the larger language families there should be similarities and basic concepts to view the world. would be pretty interesting to search for those concepts, not only discovering them by accident.

i have the feeling this is a rather low hanging fruit aside the leg work of doing the transfer of the source texts into a logical system. this must already have been done by someone :)

@PawelK Yea its a well known fact in biology and the distinction goes back quite a way.

Gender is your outward appearance, its things like the tone of your voice, facial hair, genitals, breasts, strength, and even mental tendencies (like women having a stronger compulsion to care for offspring).

Sex on the other hand is limited to your genetics.

Damn, I cried at the end of The Orville S03E08 (Midnight Blue).

I can safely say that the 3rd season has a much larger emotional impact than the previous ones.

@trinsec

Last I checked this remains to be the case. QOTO has one of the lowest insularity rates on the fediverse and relatively speaking can see a much larger portion of the fediverse than most. The ones that do block us tend to be the radicalized servers who heavily block indiscriminately, servers which by that very nature tend to be very insulated.

@mkl

@mkl Founder here. As a science based instance free speech is vital. Topics need to be explored in good faith and with open dialog. Free speech does not imply (and never has) no rules or that you can say anything. It simply implies that ideas wont be censored and can be discussed.

@PawelK As long as we also recognize that gender and sex are different and that gender can and does change, sex does not.

@ruddyrid Got what? Replacing the new idiot with the old one again? Nah, I'll pass

Well I'm back from the maldives and back to business. I should be more available again.

@johnabs

I do run qoto, though not sure why that would imply I know much about home security.

I suspect you might have an easier time rolling your own home security system.

@barefootstache

Btw fedi.koyu.space is now open for registrations. The app will come later. Thought I'd surprise you with that.

@Pat
