@freemo Yeah, and it looks like qoto is really leading the way on so many features. That's half of what attracted me to this instance, the other half being #UFoI. It's good work!
So count it as throwing in a feature request to have a hashtag follow button added to the search result pane UI, since it makes it so much easier to tailor the Home feed to a user's wants.

The problem in my view is we live in a society that is highly polarized right now, that leads naturally to people having, and even wanting high insularity. The issue is that decentralization fundementally breaks down in insular communities due to its very nature.
well before we try to figure out reasons it wont work first someone needs to identify the problem and how to fix it... I made my attempt at it, but maybe there are other ones to consider.
@LouisIngenthron No you could be right.. ive been considering it as well, just not sure on which way to go yet... but we are thinking along the same lines
@LouisIngenthron Possibly yes... if it helps bring in even a few people I'd be ok with it.. funneling it into a coalition is fine really, though i think it makes the UFoI less meaningful.. like if the point of the UFoI is to show a bunch of instances vetted and approve other instances as "good actors" does that really mean anything if instances dont even trust their own well enough to federate?
@LouisIngenthron Yes I've considered basically that... using a coalition as a way to add an optional "we dont block" aspect but making the core nonbinding... im not sure if i like it, but I am open to the idea if it brings in more members.
Keep in mind the right-to-leave already makes it non binding in a way, just not the best solution perhaps for this problem.
I hope you are right.. I am skeptical but do know it can change for the better.
It will depend entirely on how the community responds.. if they cheer it on it will continue. If people raise up to object and stick together it wont.
Very true.. but maybe instead of hoping mastodon fails maybe we should figure out what it lacks and add it... UFoI is my attempt at that, but I also made it open so we can work together to find that solution (rather than me just dictating it)... its a start...
