Nextcloud and matrix are back up. Though i may need to reload the load-balancer as i work ont he other services so it may be intermitten until im done. But should be relatively safe to use those services.
I just brought it down now, and will be bringing up serivces one at a time... I suspect most services wont give me much trouble... the gitlab might be an exception as it has some fancy routing rules it needs.. ill keep everyone updated. Working on it now.
FYI #QOTO services (not the main mastodon instance) will be down for a bit as I am completely reworking the network and services and updating everything.

@freemo @gpowerf That would surely expose you to a whole lot more of it, but as i said it's perspective, the way we interact is also different with things. As @gpowerf said there are many variables to take into account.
I think one thing QOTO has going for it, in favor of making things less hostile is that we have more than 1k words to express our opinions, so we are in a much better and more complex environment which allows for a better expression of our beliefs.
Keep in mind at 31K followers my expiernce here may be skewed by the fact that im so well known.
I'd say twitter is worse than the fediverse in terms of hostility for sure, but facebook less so, even though it is very much present there.
@acjay Lets face it, Jersey isnt so bad to live or chill in terms of the people and things to do in the area. But my god the state laws are draconic sometimes. Property tax is out of control, and their gun laws are absolutely asanine and restrictive to name a few problems. If NJ had better governance it would be a killer state.

@freemo it took me a long time to choose a server! I eventually gravitated to qoto because I liked the description of it, it sounded like a place that respected free speech and was populated by people who largely wanted to do good and discuss their academic work.
Seems like I made a good choice!

@freemo maybe my perspective is skewed because I've only ever existed in qoto.
@gpowerf I disagree, I find the communication on mastodon to be quite hostile on most servers... QOTO is an exception and so are a few servers, but generally not only is it common I think its more common than even on facebook.

So the US congress vs TikTok, they are expressing concerns about data finding its way back to the Chinese government, while at the same time when Facebook hands over information about a young lady who had an abortion to the local authorities this is perfectly acceptable to the users of these platforms.
Obviously I am against abortion being criminalized, so I do have an issue with this... but lets be clear, they are handing over vidence of a criminal act. the issue isnt that they report criminal activity, the issue is that it is criminal to begin with, which isnt facebooks fault.
