@zack @MelodyCooper @pies

Again you dont use corelation if your doing honest science on this or any topic like it...

@pies @zack @MelodyCooper

No the murder rate of the uk is irrelevant, we dont argue correlation if your doing honest anaysis. We woukdnuse granger causality which woukd show the murder rate skyrocketed in the uk in the decade followi g their gun ban.

@pies @zack @MelodyCooper

You approach to analysis (correlation) is already invalid. So everything that comes from that is likewise invalid

@jaysonmassey yes its easier to kill someone witb a gun than a knife, but there are also far more easily accessible ways to kill people more effective than a knife.

5 minutes at a super market and you can get the ingredients for a poison or bomb, both of which kill en mass easier than a gun. So the whole argument falls apart lretty fast.

It also ignores the more important aspect. As a power equalizer it means a woman with a gun is far more likely to defend herself from rape or murder than a woman with a knife. So clearly it can just as easily act to **save** live as it can to take them. This is why your argument in that aspect is equivelant to the antivaxxer argument. It ignores the big picture.

@admitsWrongIfProven if you have a specific toot that reads that way id love to see it.

I suspect people get triggered and assume that when i saw nothing of the sort... i put 0 effort into mitigating other people making assumptions ;)

@jaysonmassey what japanese solution? Ba ing guns woukd sig ificantly reduce gun deaths... but also significantly increase stabbings, viokent acts, rape, and other non gun deaths. So describing that as a solution isnt accurate.

@admitsWrongIfProven I think ive been pretty co sistent on the backgrojnd check system.. the current system is very effective, other than addressing the private sale loophole i am all for using the current way backgroubd checks work, which is fairly effective outside of the mentioned loopholes.

Where can i clarify my stance, i do lean towards less regulation than most people, but i never claimed it shoukd be ubregulated

@jaysonmassey I wouldnt even describe it as common sense gun control.

They are measures trying to address perceived problems that have little or not impact on the results. I dont object to thrm largely because they do almost nothing in most cases. Only reason i might oject to them is simply being a waste of money to implement regulations that are likely to be 0 impact.

It is common to what the democrats do, pass laws that make people feel like they are addressing the problem when in reality their just putting on a show.

> "In 2018, Japan, a country of 125 million people, only reported nine deaths from firearms – compared with 39,740 that year in the United States, according to data compiled by the Sydney School of Public Health at the University of Sydney."

This statement seems random and unrelated to the topic. I mean deaths from vaccines are near 0 in countries that makes vaccines illegal too. So not sure whats trying to be said here but the way its frames seems fishy.

@admitsWrongIfProven If i contradicted myself feel free to point out where and i can hopefully address it.

@admitsWrongIfProven eh, its been good hearing everyones views. I dunno i have enough reach i probably contribute to this problem more than it would seem so even to me.

@admitsWrongIfProven

The gun discussion i entered into was largely to point out why we shouldnt have thr gun discussion, because its not important...

@thatguyoverthere

From what therapists told me anonymized therapy in the usa is illegal. Not sure of tbr details though.

@admitsWrongIfProven

@admitsWrongIfProven If we agree that is the most effective step 1 then ask yourself, everytime you hear of a mass murder are you posing about guns, or better mental health access? Since mental health access is as we agree, a far greater and more impactful solution then why isnt that the one your putting on blast?

@admitsWrongIfProven My solution to the problem has always been free easy access and normalization of mental health... so id say if the problem has little to do with guns then id be more likely to be right.

@admitsWrongIfProven except it wasnt really a change in problem. We are addressing the same problem (all the killing) but by requiring a prerequsite of thr dicussion being to frame the same problem but only with sokutions that assune your opinions are correct going in.. its basically "i know im bias but lets have a discussion where we assume my biases are correct".. it isnt bad so much as it will never give you a honest world view if you cant accept the solutions to a problem exist outside your proposed solution.

Less guns means more people dead, thr fact that the shape of the holes change seem like a poor measure of success.

@admitsWrongIfProven im just pointing out what you literally said in the message i responded to.

@admitsWrongIfProven @GabeLakmann

The things is i care about what is tbe most usefulnpath, full stop... you seem to care about the dicussion if and only if it frames guns as thr core problem. You literally go in with an incorrect and biased "fact" as a premis. That will never work.

@Baley At this point Id expect almost every book to be banned in a school library somewhere.

@TheRealTraceyDelaney

Lawn darts arent banned, there is no law making thrn illegal. The company decided to stop making it due to being ubsafe, but no one banned them. In fact you can still buy them.
