hype not ah legal right, but it should be. It certainly is objectively ah moral right IMO.

@realcaseyrollins

Yea, so? They dont have any self, it is morally equivalent to broccoli at that point.

Plus you cant completely disregard the autonomy otf the woman, sot there must be some compromise.

@realcaseyrollins It is more complicated than that... I think one needs to let the woman have the right to abort, but only if she does so in a way that makes every attempt at minimizing the moral offenses against the fetus... limiting it to ah point in time before the fetus has brain cells seems like ah fair compromise.

@Phileosopher @realcaseyrollins

I dont think the question even makes sense to ask... Or at least it is a meaningless question... What you are realling asking is "What do you think the definition of "rights" should be".

But let me attempt to answer. Rights are, effectively, the things we agree are morally proper to live by as ethical rules. So really we are asking is... is it possible to pick ah moral code that is objective and universal and not arbitrary or ah social construct...and I'd say yes, ethics are an objective logical thing that exists regardless of if those ethics are codified (granted) or not.

@realcaseyrollins

I am one who feels bodily autonomy is sacred. My argument is usually that both the fetus and parent have bodily autonomy that is in conflict when it comes to abortion. Therefore any law surrounding it must do its best to respect the bodily autonomy of both.

inb4: People usually counter with talk about being forced to donate a liver to someone. But the difference is a fetus only needs you metaphorical liver because you put the fetus in that position in the first place.

I am not against abortion, but I do think it needs to be relatively restrictive in when and how it is permitted (first trimester only)

@bonifartius @linos @publicvoit It was not the reason, Eugen ststed a reason, which was a transparent lie (a remark about a chsnge in qoto policy which i coubtered with the history of our policy)

@linos @publicvoit @freemo
i don't see why hard forks of free software should be a reason for exclusion. then you just can do closed source or some weird "you can look at it but don't run it" construct like signal does as well.

joinmastodon for sure isn't owing anyone something. part of this discussion was "mastodon.social is the entrypoint for newcomers" - so is joinmastodon. by excluding everything but what is "correct", be it forks or completely different software it's doing a disservice to the fediverse.

it has done so already by taking something, relabeling it as "the mastodon network" all while raking in tax money and working together with the EU on surveillance of the fediverse.

@linos @bonifartius @publicvoit

Im sure retroactively he coukd come up for all sorts of excuses for delisting QOTO. But his actual reason was quite clear.

Can we please stop throwing around the threat of defederation?

Defederation shouldn't happen unless an instance is a cesspool full of terrible behavior with an admin unwilling to deal with it.

Annoyances like spam can be dealt with by admins without scorching the Earth and going nuclear.

Lets not turn the #Fediverse, where instance are supposed to be part of a larger collection, into islands of instances that have cut themselves off from others because of annoyances.

#Mastodon #MastoAdmin

@rysiek Actually that is exactly what it means, you wont get notifications from the server except for people you follow.

@rysiek the solution for spam is a silence not a suspend, so thry can still folllow and interact with whoever they want with none of the spam, and easy since yiu only need tk silence a single instance

silencing Mastodon.social again... JFRC... fix your shit or something.

I had to silence mastodon.social. That spam run was a lot.

@rysiek kinda the opposite. This makes us easy to block the instance and fix the problem. If the same spam bots attacked across many instances at once it woulf be much harder to manage since we woukd have to silence many instances as they pop up.

Should we silence mastodon.social?
