@LouisIngenthron

Exactly. I even recognized that im sure there are people out there using "proper english" as a bat with which to beat transpeople with (re: gender pronouns). But saying that means anyone who uses or believes English has rules is automatically anti-trans is just laughable.

@luna

@luna @freemo That people may have used prescriptivism in anti-trans agendas does not make prescriptivism itself anti-trans.

That's akin to saying that books are anti-gay because somebody wrote an anti-gay book once.

The logic simply doesn't follow.

@alecui not sure what you mean by "avoid prescriptivist language"... that would seem to imply you should actively try to not follow english rules, now that would be chaos if taken to that extreme, no one would understand each other if we actively tried to never follow the rules ever.

@alecui

No I never said that, and never meant to imply it. Obviously my preference is to use the correct/formal spelling. But I never said anyone else is obligated to use the correct spelling in informal settings with their friends, they can do whatever they want in those settings.

@alecui To a point I agree.. if you are being artistic, poetic, or even just informal with your friends, then speak or write however you think is cool. But the truth is if you want to write for a journal, write formal letters for a company, or even just write professional blog posts, then you need to know the rules, and follow them. If you dont you just look uneducated and worse yet, will do a poor job at communicating your ideas.

I just had someone tell me that recognizing there is such as rules to the english language is the same thing as being anti-trans... this is on a post that had nothing to do with any topic related to the LGBTQ community (it was on a post asking the proper spelling of "no one"). Man you can't even make this stuff up.

Luna :circleA:
@freemo I'm sure any trans person would tell you prescriptivism is directly anti-trans and is actively being used against us. Kindly fuck off and ...

@luna

Im sure some idiots have used it against you... im not one of them.. so yea, kindlyfuck off and use that toxic nonsense against people who are actually attacking trans people. You arent doing yourself or the community any favors otherwise.

@luna

What in the world sort of nonsense is this... We werent even talking about anything remotely related to trans rights and I have always been a **very** vocal supporter of trans-rights (as are most from my instance)... what are you even on about with this nonsense.

@noelle

@jaysonmassey I dont doubt this, whats the source for the statistic though, I'd like to learn more.

@luna @noelle

Yup I sure am, and you will find our real quick so is the rest of the world the moment you try to write anything technical or professional.

Now if you wish to break the rules for the sake of art or beauty, or just for fun, by all means go for it.

@noelle

"no one" is the only one of these that is actually correct. So gonna have to go with that one.

@davidaugust yes ive been quiet lucky with covid. Of the 7 times i had it only once had noticable symptoms and thry were very managable.

@davidaugust I have been infected with covid 7 times. That shoukd put me at about 80% chance of long covid. Thankfully I have no symptoms of long covid.

@Hyolobrika@berserker.town Probably because everyone is convinced it is a two party system (it isnt) and thus most people only vote for one of two authoritarian parties.

I can't say I am surprised The Judge won this poll, not too many handguns can also take shotgun shells at the same time, fun gun.

Of the three guns I own what is your favorite?

@TruthSandwich

While true this is a very misleading response... Inflation growth rate has been significantly higher than wage growth rate for 2 years now (from march 2021 to march 2023 inflation growth rate has exceeded wage growth rate). You are correct however for the last month that wage growth rate for the first time in years has exceeded inflation growth rate by about 1%.

That said comparing the two is rather comical regardless as any statistician will tell you. because of the non-linear nature of percentages (a double bound value) that represent unbounded values (unemployed).. its a math thing. You can get a sense of what im saying by thinking about how the numbers behave on the outskirts. If you have every single person being unemployed and create just a single job in america then the wage growth rate would be infinite, despite being quite poor in terms of growth rate at just 1 out of 300 million or so increase.

Yes I am quite aware of the fact that you are blind to fascism when it is bated in the propaganda of your preferred side... very aware.
