I often remark on this when it comes to the latest tendency of increasing autism diagnosis... while im sure a great deal of autism is legitimate I think it is largely overinflated int he USA. The people labeled as autistic for not "fitting in" or "missing social clues" are really the health well rounded people and its everyone else who is toxic and constantly offended.. so it creates this weird dynamic where th e"norm" is having a social disorder and the healthy people are seen as the "unhealthy" and get mislabeled as autistic.
The problem isnt the internet, americans are generally just as insufferable in person. Being in america is like being in a huge insane asylum but where no one actually realizes it because it is so pervasive no one realizes just how ill they are.
It is very draining being around americans.
@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , I don't doubt your intentions. I have watched your interactions for about 8 months now, since I joined this instance. I doubt MY observations of another person a few days back, someone I did not know, who I assumed was arguing without good faith, to 'win the internet'. The similarities were, looking at the two conversations, blatant. I am questioning now, based on your conversation, if I was too quick to judge. Second guessing myself. It seemed to me that everyone should be directly aware of the book bannings, the anti trans legislation, etc, that states like Florida are imposing, and how miserable the state is becoming. This discussion defused my opinion of a guy who I pretty much KNEW was sealioning me.
So, I am attempting to return the favor.
Gotcha, thats fair.
Yea I have been completely ignorant of what has been going on in Florida mostly because in israel, where I was stuck for 2 years, the focus was on other things, mainly Palestinian conflict.
People in the USA have a tendency to assume everyone knows whats going on. Truth is most of the world most of the time just rolls their eyes at us and doesnt give it much attention.
I have no doubt there is miscommunication and people are assuming intent behind my questions that dont exist. I even understand those misunderstandings happen because as I stated earlier it is not uncommon for people to discuss in bad faith... However I have consistently explicitly made it clear that was not the case and that this is good-faith. I was polite, thanked them when i got an answer and just moved on (at least until the toxic nightmare of a debate kicked off in meta-land).
You have been reported for harassment, I will say yet again, stop talking to me, stop tagging me. You want to participate in the thread, go for it, leave me out of it.
You can speak to anyone else int he thread you want.. I asked you to stop addressing **me**, talk to the others all you want. Yet you keep explicitly tagging me and talking directly to me... go away, you are a waste of energy.
I asked you to leave me alone, why are you still messaging me?
Again, these acts are horrific, the semantics about what language you want to use doesnt matter to me nor am I objecting to it.. the issue is the non-descript more hyperbolic form makes it harder to know what, specifically, the law is being discussed and makes it much harder for anyone to read up on the topic and thus integrate a persons views.
You are literally arguing with someone whose only intent, very clearly and explicitly stated, was to ask what the law of concern was. I never justified the law, never said anyone was wrong for being upset, just asked what the law was... and from that you've now spent 2 days throwing a tantrum over literally nothing and trying your best to fabricate some delusional image of me that is in no way related to my actions..
Apologize, and move on if you want, or keep making a fool of yourself. I dont care, but you can kindly leave me alone now because you are a waste of energy and time I could be spending **actually* helping LGBTQ people or doing other positive works rather than feeding your black hole of toxicity over a non-issue.
You are not welcome to contact me again about this issue, thank you.
That is a lot of mental gymnastics to make yourself right about something after making a fool of yourself, damn.
No one is arguing that the laws against LGBTQ aren't horrific, nor that they aren't **leading** towards making LGBTQ illegal... but not being able to teach kids in schools about LGBTQ is not, objectively the same as saying it is illegal to be LGBTQ.. now again for the 3rd time now, I dont mind the hyperbolic language itself, just dont be surprised when someone comes along and asks for specifics, especially since i never challenged the language itself; I politely asked for the specific law, thanked people when it was provided and until you started in with your toxic toddler tantrum bullshit that would have, and should have, been the end of it.
Keep trying to make your disgusting actions justified, go for it, you're only making yourself look like a toxic parasite rather than a champion. Anyone who knows me knows quite well that LGBTQ rights are a top concern for me and the flood of boosts and favorites from this thread are proof that your doing yourself no favors.
Wow what a delusional take, I never once suggested I was against canceling the conference or otherwise. Quite the opposite, I made it clear I didnt have enough information to hold an opinion and was asking for clarity on what was being spoken about.
The fact is while the actual laws are quite concerning and worthy of rage, it in no way resembles a law making it illegal to be gay, and armed with only that accusation no objective person could use google to find the actual law, which does not resemble the hyperbole presented. You of course had no problem finding it because you were in on the "secret", you already knew what was being referred to before you google searched, which is why your search was so radically different than what the OP had actually said, looking for any anti-lgbtq laws rather than laws that explicitly make being lgbtq illegal.
Why would I engage with someone who even when I agree witht hem on the fact that these laws are unacceptable they act like asshats who clearly have no interest in a productive or good faith discussion... I mean I couldnt even get past "hey you mind showing me what law is concerning you?"... if I cant even get past that simple question without people acting like toddlers having a tantrum why on earth would I engage any deeper than that? Also, what is there to engage in, since I have already stated that the laws pointed out thus far are disturbing in their own right.
What is there to engage in? The **actual** laws are disgusting and I dont agree with them, what is left to say, its clear the OP feels the same.
Also what would motivate me to have any sort of a dfiscussion on the articles when nearly everyone engaged in the thread is acting toxic and aggressive for daring to even ask what the law is, let alone any real serious analysis.
No, as Ive stated I dont really care so much about the hyperbolic language other than its self-defeating nature.. The toxicity around "hey that thing you said isnt very descriptive, can you point me to the law your referncing" is far far more the problem than any initial choice of language. If you cant even query about what is meant when someone uses language so hyperbolic as to be non-descript then you are fully within self-defeating territory with no hope of improving the very situation you are concerned about.
You are right there is no need, and yet, here we are, with people doing just that... at least in the case of florida where the reality is quite abysmal but the language used to describe it is grossly hyperbolic to the point of obscuring the ability to know what one is even talking about, and to the point of being attacked in this toxic bullshit of a thread simply for asking what is being referenced.
So yea, your right there is no need, thats the whole damn point of the objections, there is no need and yet its what is being done anyway.
@freemo they don't care about that kind of community risk, though: they *want* an idpol grievance echo chamber, not a place to critically examine their positions to make them stronger. Comfortable patting each other on the back, not any kind of intellectual growth.
In this case, there's a race to describe Florida and Texas in the most hyperbolic nonsensical language possible. You get brownie points and encouragement from the crowd if you do that. Questioning it in any way is spoiling the fun.
I am neither sealioning or asking someone to do my research for me. I am engaging in a respectful discussion. A post was made saying gay/trans cant go there. I asked for why you feel that is the case, that is not sealioning nor asking you or anyone to do research.
I am not trolling, nor "profoundly ignorant", not everyone keeps tabs on the day to day happenings in Florida... but congratulations on being rude to someone who is genuinely curious about your opinion, and having a desire to support you in your concerns. Quite the self-defeating approach you have going there.
