George Takei is really a class act. Always liked the guy.. this was nice that he reached out to me. Even beyond that he almost always likes my comments... Its nice he takes the time.

@TruthSandwich Yea, we arent really mastodon, we are a fork. We plan to add in editing support but since it was implemented in a non-standard way we are waiting to see if/how a standard evolves and adopt that rather than adopt a hacked non-standard that is likely to change when the standard is defined.

Pleorma defined a way to do it that was much better (and works with us) so I suspect they are more likely to be the standard.

My CQC (Close Quarters Combat) AR-15 build is complete!

Features I added:

* 45 degree angled fore grip
* 45 degree angled backup iron sights
* Sig Sauer MSR red dot reflex sight
* Monstrum 3x flip-to-side magnifier

All in all I love the setup.

My main criticisms are really just two, one purely aesthetic, the other functional. Both of which reside with the Monstrum 3x.

1) The FDE color is off from the standard and looks bad

2) It has a very limited eye-box and thus can be hard to use and may cause issues in a high-stress situation.

Only reason I went with Monstrum here rather than the juliet3 that sig makes for it was because I couldnt find an FDE colored magnifier from Sig... But after seeing the eye box I think I will just order the black one and call it a day. That said if you want to save a little money and are ok with the eye-box the Monstrum is still looking good outside of that. The fact it has diopter adjustment is always nice.

@georgetakei Thanks, I know how busy you are so I really do appreciate you took the time to write that.

Thank you!

@TruthSandwich Is toad a mastodon based instance? Can you see if you can see it from a pleorma based instance?

My suspicion is that its because they edited the 5th post.. mastodon implemented in-line editing but did it in a way that broke the published standard as I understand it.. basically they hacked their own way of doing it and told the rest of the network to go screw itself.

Looking at those posts the first 4 posts were all regular posts, the others appear to have been edited using mastodons non-standard in-line editing. Which i suspect is breaking it for any standard-complying instances (anything other than mastodon).

There is a saying in ecology: "All invasive species are non-native. but not all non-native species are invasive"....

Ok then, explain humans!

Oh wow, an interaction on the fediverse where neither side blocked the other... this is new.

In the past I have been quite fruitful with daily challenges. Successfully achieved the 50 day and slowly creeping up on 365 day mark of the (@barefootstache@en.osm.town) with less than a month to go. Thus, I will attempt the daily blogging challenge.

The requirements will be quite simple for the begining and might expand through time:

- It must use `hashtag (XX/YY)` format. This has two benefits:
1. One can follow the hashtag thereby potentialy creating its own atom/rss feed.
2. One can filter out these posts if unwanted.
- It must be post ready before slumber. This puts the focus on writing rather than publishing and gives a grace period if no internet connection.
- If written on mobile, it must be written with the keyboard.
- It must be at least one paragraph or three sentences long.

This challenge was sparked after reading the article

Doesnt need to be a perfect lockdown to have a noticable effect. Even just a significant reduction in contact over long periods can potentially have huge effects.

FYI: I am a COVID research scientist who just got done running a lab and team of analysts for 2 years.

@theothersimo

Actually, what you just said now explained it, thank you... Again could have done without the disgraceful attitude, but thanks anyway, I understand what you meant now.

@theothersimo

We both seem to agree on the racism element, so no need to be rude.

But yes, I dont really follow, explaining would be appreciated. But you dont have to, lets keep it civil thanks.

@meredithw @Wolven

@theothersimo

Huh? What do you mean by "same thing might happen"... how would HR turn a persons picture into a new picture? I think your talking about racial discrimination, sure, and there is plenty of that, but how is that the same as what the AI did?

@meredithw @Wolven

@maxkennerly

It is important to note that this does **not** imply the poor or middle class have less wealth simply because the upper class have a bigger portion of the wealth.

Why? Simple, wealth isnt a fixed quantity.

@MutoShack

I am so sorry to hear this.. if you ever need to talk, need help.. anything I can do, anything... please reach out.
