@skobkin usually electromagnets using thin wire wth many turns
Also, youmay find this interesting... I have almost 0 tolerance for caffein. I can drink it and i wont die, but if I do I find it generally unpleasant. It lasts forever for me and I cant sleep at night even if I drink it in the early morning. On the other hand amphetamines make it easier for me to sleep, assuming i took it early int he day.
Very different in feel and physiology, it isnt about potency.
Amphetamines give you a sense of excitement and fun... you feel them coming on by a sudden desire to do things and everything seems exciting.
Caffein you just feel your heart race, maybe more awake, more energy... but not much in the way of excitement, motivation, or really anything from an emotional perspective.
Caffein makes me awake but makes me wish I wasnt (because i still want to sleep).. amphetamines makes me happy im awake.
@skobkin yea this is one of those things we would have to test.. im not even sure how much power youd really need.
@skobkin im not so sure of that.. i mean wire isnt that expensive, and those robots need to communicate nad have processing power... id imagine the coils would be cheaper, at the very least affordable.. just taling about some chunks of iron and a bunch of wire.
@skobkin well there are chessboards that move pieces though.. a few models.. the reason i think it may be harder to do is becasue why would they build all these fancy robots inside the board that use magnets to move it.. surely the first thing they tried was a grid of coils.. surely, at least before designing a hoard of robots inside the damn thing.
Only time i feel lonely is if I have lacked physical intimacy with a woman over a very long period, then I start craving that (and sometimes over a shorter period).. otherwise no, I dont really get lonely.
Not me I could go a year on a deserted island all alone and I'd be sad when i finally had to go back to civilization :)
@skobkin if you dont mind jerky movement that might work... in practice id imagine it would be harder than it seems (or else it would have been done)
While I spend a healthy amount of time around people I much prefer my alone time. I just spend that time with people more to show them I appreciate them then out of need for a social life.
I actually find ADHD itself to be a bit of a super power rather than something needing medicating. It is an indication of a high-bandwidth brain.
I find the medication does slow downt he ADHD and reduce the bandwidth of ones mind.. and while that may help with things like sleep, not getting distracted, and motivation to engage on a project, it also reduces your overall abilities.
I think most people who actually have ADHD eventually find ADHD isnt really the problem at all, at least not directly. Instead the problem is how one copes and responds to their natural info processing.
@skobkin yea i similarly thought using electromagnets should work.. you would need a grid of them smaller than the pieces for the motion to be smooth, but im not sure why people use other approaches.
well if i use it much longer than that can be unpleasant.
That said if i have a 9-5 I absolutely need it every day to keep a normal sleep schedule.. I cant sleep when off of it very reliably oddly enough.
@freemo @realcaseyrollins it's funny because you don't sound like you have ADHD until you take meds lol
Hahaha, I can see that... but I do. The one thing that happens when im not on meds is i spread myself too thin doing too many things at once while following through on none of it. On the meds I get stuff done and tend to focus on one thing at a time, I just get very frustrated.
On the drugs ill follow through on something and it will be mediocer... off the drugs i wont follow through on any project but ill have 100 brilliant ideas.
Usually if i dont have a 9-5 ideally ill go through cycles on and off. When off I come up with ideas and take notes, and when on it i pick an idea and follow through, rinse repeat.
The sweet spot for me is 1-2 weeks on it. In that case I am hyper focused, no frustration, Its the sweet spot.
@skobkin all the stuff out there that does that has internal moving parts and is rather big... so I specifically dont want that, at least not until someone makes a solid state one.
Its interesting how my expiernce in almost every regard is the exact opposite.. on amphetamines I have 0 patience... even when something is going perfectly I get extremely frustrated with minor things and need to put something down just because im too annoyed with it. Off of it I can persue a thing forever.
Interesting, in many ways my expiernce is the opposite.
On them I do have a calmer inner mental dialog.. I dont talk to myself as much or get lost in thought. This is both good and bad.
I am restless in different ways on and off.. On I usually think alot more tomyself and have trouble quiting my mind. On them I get frustrated way more easily and therefore can be hard to stick with a task that is mentally challenging.
Off them I am more capable mentally to solve problems but less motivated physically to carry out the solution.
Its weird, on them I find it much harder to focus but more motivated to do the tasks, so i get more done usually.
Yea that wasnt my expiernce.. in fact off of the medication id be more likely to sit around staring at a wall than on
