Are we saying that all VCs are people who wreck companies and destroy lives? Or are you saying he was a member of a specific VC company known for wrecking companies and destroying lives?

Im sure you can find a few that have very different numbers. No need to get into a statistical pissing context cause no matter if it prevented 5% or 50% of mass shootings it is undeniable that it prevented some number of them, thats the point.

To put actual numbers to it though. 34.4% - 49.1% (depending on the year) of active shooter events are stopped by an armed citizen.

Again applying general statistic to an individual is a failure in understanding statistics.
The statistics you are describing apply to an individual selected randomly from the population. It does not take into consideration the individual or the context.
So you cant talk about **me** since you did not select me randomly from the population. Even if you did you'd only be talking about your selection process and why it is likely to yield a particular individual.. talking about "me" without reference to how you selected me really makes no sense when we talk about statistics (and also why most people misunderstand statistics).

The quality of the police force is of limited help. Even if you have 100% devoted servant police they still will arrive on the scene almost all of the time **after** the crime happens. So the only one who will ever save you in the vast majority of incidents will be you.
Now being a low-crime area, that may diminish the need. If there was little to no crime no one would really need a gun to defend themselves at all. That said no where int he world is without crime so even if your in a low-crime area having a gun is the responsible choice just in case.

Stop being pedantic, Neither I nor any gun owners see ourselves as tough guys. We just want to be responsible and ensure that should we ever be in the horrible happen stance of needing to defend ourselves to save our own lives, that we can.

Statistically speaking **I** am far more likely to shoot a criminal than myself or an innocent person. For the general population filled with less responsible people that may not be the case. But you cant apply the general to the individual.
Some individuals will have a high probability of killing a bad guy, some people will have a high probability of killing themselves. The problem is it is hard to tell which is which, and ultimately people have a right to decide for themselves which of those groups they think they are in.
I too cared about brand and style as a child. Interestingly though, at least for me, it was something fairly well isolated to my childhood as well. As an adult most of my friends are poor or close to it and I have never cared much other than how it may effect their happiness.

As expected, a federal judge 👨🏾⚖️ struck down the state executive order banning #guns in #NewMexico issued by the Governor.

Regardless how one feels about #GunControl, solutions to gun violence need to be addressed by the legislature, not the executive branch (whose job is to enforce the law).
Hopefully this inspires the legislature to take action.

@darnell I agree entierly with you here.. the judge made the right call.
@modrobert If your trying to build an echo chamber doing so with technology designed to disseminate opinion and encourage people, strangers, to comment, is a really shitty way to go about it.
> You say "even if a study showed clearly". In addition to casting doubt, this indicates both that you are unacquainted with how research accumulates into knowledge and that you have not, in fact, looked for such a study.
I am a COVID-19 research scientist who has been working on the disease for over 2 years now. Lets not go there with the personal attacks, it makes you look unprofessional and ignorant.
While there are lots of studies that show long-covid and talk about the odds, any honest scientist will tell you COVID is new and our data still very limited. No studies on long-term permanent effects are conclusive this early on in a disease.
> As a research scientist, I assume you are capable of doing a literature survey. If you take the time to look for papers on sequelae prevalence in reinfection, you will find ample evidence supporting my statements.
Have and do, and yes there are studies that both support and reject many of your assumptions. As is to be expected with such a new disease where the data is still emerging. You can find studies to support almost any invalid assumption you want, the key is understanding the entire body of knowledge and weighing it accordingly.
The funny thing is with my 7 confirmed COVID cases if 1 in 5 was every single infection the chance of me not being permanently disabled would be statistically impossible. Yet here I am perfectly fine... That alone proves the 1 in 5 chance is not compounded across each infection naively.
@lurker Not intended as a flex. But it does indicate why I have become indifferent to it.
No you misunderstood what I said.
> First, per the WHO, our best estimate is that LC happens 1 in 10 *infections*
First off, yes the average across all infections might be 1 in 10, that does not mean your first infection is 1 in 10 as is your second infection. It means when you average it all out it will be 1 in 10. Most studies are looking at the overall average and not differentiating if its your first or second infection.
> The evidence we have is that reinfection *increases*, not decreases, your chance of long covid, just as covid increases risk across the board for a number of other diagnoses like heart disease and diabetes
Yes this is true, nor contrary to what I said.
If you have been infected twice you are, obviously, at a higher risk for having a long term complication than being infected once. That doesnt contradict the idea that on your second infection your risk of long term harm is less than on your first.
I'll give an arbitrary example that is easy to understand. If on your first infection of covid you have a 1 in 5 chance of long term complications, then on your second infection you have a 1 in 15 chance. Then a person who has been infected twice still has an overall chance of long term complications of about 1 in 4 (so higher than someone infected once). Carry this out to multiple infections and while each infection does increase the risk the risk from any one individual infection is less.
Of course any of this is mostly speculation considering we dont have enough data yet to really make long term conclusions.
> If your glasses fog, you haven't found a mask that fits properly - if it's sealing correctly, it shouldn't fog your glasses nor should it be uncomfortable to breathe.
Any mask that seals enough not to fog my glasses is still extremely uncomfortable for many other reasons. I am not wearing hazmat equipment for the rest of my life, full stop.
