You and me, we know enough to think of it as it is, as a staticician with an understanding would... you cant judge most people by those standards though.

@realcaseyrollins

@icedquinn

Ther eis a linguistic subtlety that is hard to capture here...

We need to look at actions that are good because they **usually** have good effect and actions that are bad because they usually have bad effects. Not if one particular action in one particular case had the bad effect.

Let me give an example... shooting a gun in the air for no reason is a bad action.. its still a bad act even when it doesnt hit anyone. To say. So perfectly ok to say "You did something you shouldnt have done, you should be punished"

But cause and effect would be different... that would be like saying "This guy got shot in the head, and after investigating we found out it was because bill shot a gun in the air randomly.... therefore we would have given him 1 year in prison if it hadnt killed anyone, but now that it has there will be murder charges to it will be 20 years"...

The fact that two people taking the same action, with exactly the same motives will get drastically different punishments due to a happenstance, a roll of the dice... that seems like a very silly and counter productive way of operating.

Now take that idea and extract away from law and crime.. that same realization is valuable in life and our reasoning more generally.

They were, they were just hidden in the subtlety of english

(Translation: I communicated it very poorly but I wont admit that :) )

@admitsWrongIfProven

I dont remember the situation under which he blocked me honestly.. despite it looking like I care alot about getting into arguments, they are largely entertainment when they happen and once blocked I forget about them (i have this odd thing where i can choose to forget someone consciously)...

Anyway, sufficive to say while I remember stan going a little crazy about something I dont remember it at the moment. I think I said something that criticized something on the left once or something, thats usually what this nonsense is anyway. The right dont block ya when you call them out, but they do troll you and pull out the racism shit, which is kinda worse to be honest (I dont mind someone blocking me so much they can do whatever)

Bear in mind Stan has me blocked. So I cant see the context or any of his replies.

@realcaseyrollins

@realcaseyrollins There is yes... which is exactly why we are so shitty at fixing things. Scapegoats make it easy to be blind to most of the actual problem.

@freemo Agree. We need to stop blaming, and start providing. Any "we cannot do that" arguments on economy are invalid. We clearly can, and we should. Blame game is something for those outside of the harrowing circle of providing for oneself.

**An apology to the whole fediverse**

I wanted to apologize to everyone as I've been rude and harsh with many of you as of late. Regardless of if it was in response to disrespect or not, that is not in line with my own moral views, it was wrong of me.

My philosophy moving forward is no matter how bad a person I may think you are, no matter how cruel or deserving it may seem you are of an attack, my options will be to respond with compassion or not at all. That said I will continue to call out bad actors in a blunt but constructive way. I will try my best that should I provide a personal criticism I do so with a tone of respect and kindness.

While I can say the recent change have been due to some pretty monumental stress and life changes I've been dealing with (a physical assault and death threat from the Israeli Mob), that does not make me any less accountable. But I do want people to know why.

My deepest apologies to anyone effected, both on and off. I will try better to be more compassionate in my words and actions moving forward and should anyone feel I fail to do that I welcome you to point me back to this post.

@Elleaster

How ya figure that? The logic is the same, guns dont kill people, books dont make people gay... why would my argument that guns dont kill people suggest to you that that means books make people gay, they dont either.

@ErikUden

@sdgathman

Even if you do man an argument to an upper limit on temperature it is missing the point of the question... we are talking about representing a single-bounded variable with a double bounded range lineraly... that isnt possible. Arguing that temperature is in reality double bounded, while true, was not the point of the question.

Actually this and my other comment was a bit too harsh, sorry about that. I shouldnt have been quite so aggressive in the personal attack, even if you were acting in bad-faith, i escalated. So sorry.

@DemDifference

Using a linear scale to represent a non-linear quantity... shame on you.

@olives

Oh it is absolutely clear at this point this argument with Jon is pointless... when he plays these sorts of dishonest games there is no point.. you can make a perfect argument a toddler could understand and he would still deny it.
