Also keep in mind garuntees only are an indication an instance is not mostly spam/fake accounts. Endorsements are more praise worthy.... So ideally it should be a light barrier to entry to get a garuntee.

Of course people need to be tagged to hear your ask :)

Not in philly, though we are probably well outside the avg. In philly there are few if any bike lanes. When they exist they arent guarded. And the drivers are more than happy to kill you for sport :)

As I understand the legality is still not certain though... it sounds like this is an open question the courts are still resolving.

I would suspect this is highly variable based ont he location.. Biking in the city is far more dangerous than through the woods or in the suburbs I suspect.

Moreover it would vary greatly from city to city. Cities with guarded bike lanes would probably be quite safe whereas cities that require cars to occupy the same space as bikes are likely very dangerous.

That list is kinda suspect considering it is maintained in part by someone from Scholar.social, an instant notorious for abusing its own LGBTQ members (while trying to pretend it is an ally)..

The admin has also been called out for calls to violence and doxing in the past which.. it was quite ugly, took days before they finally back peddled

Keep in mind you can censor and hesitate on non-garunteed instances. But to endorse either you or someone who has been garunteed needs to garuntee them first.

The list of servers that are garunteed is confusingly called the "white list".

Now that I garunteed you you can garuntee up to 20 other instances, but you can endorse any number of instances.

You cant garuntee a server that is already garunteed, it will give a warning and **not** consume one of your 20 slots. You can also revoke a garuntee and free up one of your 20 slots. Revoking a garuntee will however invalidate everything in the trust tree below you if the orphaned instance doesnt find a new guarantee (or you regaruntee) within 24 hours.

I think thats more or less the gist of it. Keep in mind a guarantee only means "this server isnt predominately spam", it isnt an indication of trust itself beyond that.

@purplepadma Commercial entities use it to advertise into the void.. But as a research scientist myself (and usually the one who does the hiring/firing/promoting) I can assure you, it does absolutely nothing to advance your career, and if it does anything it might even hurt it these days.

Wouldnt be too hard to figure out... figure out the percentage of the population that drives, the percentage each year that dies in car accidents, and the average number of miles driven per person... you can then calculate the chance of death per mile.

Covid youd have to 1) find the chance you will get infected if you hug or are near a person infected 2) find the percentage of people infected that die...

That should handle both cases, and the info is out there.. im just too lazy right now to do it :)
