@freemo @freeschool sure, makes sense!

i already like the current featureset, pinning other timelines is very cool. the colored follow icons are also very handy!

thanks for putting in the work and money :)

@selea Sadly yes it is a tool with a steeper learning curve than a simple package manager. Nothing too out of reach, but with power and novility comes the need to learn

I can say at first i didnt know much about how it worked but i was able to hack through it and get a system running. Within just a few weeks I was able to administer it across an entire company.

Early on you just steal someone elses install config and modify it a bit for your own packages you want installed, keep it simple. AS long as you arent doing anything too fancy in the install configs its really easy. Then learn as you go, thats what I did.

@selea Without having anyidea what you want or need in a distro (feel free to share if you want a more specific answer)... I very highly recommend NixOS. I havent gotten to much into GUIX but thats another similar alternative.

They go about system management VERY different than most linux os with a more declaritive form.

but I spent my whole like on Arch and Debian and now that i discovered NixOS it is a game changer in so many ways!

How is it plants dont poop!!! what witchcraft is this! What is it plants know that I dont know!

@freeschool

Oh and a new user querentine. Essentially all new users start out silenced and once they make a post showing they are not spam (or two) we unsilence them to accept them.

@bonifartius

@freeschool

First step is just bring in some stuff from upstream, namely in-line editing and some translation stuff. Also we have some bug fixes.

Around the same time we have to migrate servers too.

That alone will be a huge effort and the work has begun, thats likely a good month there.

After that we have some plans for features around blocking (allowing for a server-wide block that users can override), and a few other quality of life improvements.

@bonifartius

Q. List of server instances blocking QOTO?

@freeschool

Many do, many dont.. just linking to that tool will get you banned by MANY servers specifically because it was developed by KiwiFarms (the instance that trolls people as a matter of their entire purpose). Basically the developers designed it **intentionally** to be inaccurate with the intent of causing people to fight about it and leave the fediverse.

So just the use of that link will get you on many block lists since it was developed by literal nazis with the intent of doing harm.

@bonifartius

Q. List of server instances blocking QOTO?

@bonifartius

Every server on that list blocked you for at least 5 minutes at some point in time... but the overwhelming majority either no longer block or dont even exist yet remain listed.

Also many servers are spam servers and were never real.

@freeschool

Q. List of server instances blocking QOTO?

@freeschool

Now that we have a whole team and some money I think your going to see a lot more projects soon.. first we just need to get things up to speed.

So one of the issues with this list is that it falsly reports who blocks you, like many of those servers dont actually block at all... Basically if someone blocked you once 10 years ago and then unblocked you, it would show on this list as a current block. They **never** remove old blocks even once removed. For that reason it is a very bad link to use, especially because older servers will have much longer lists even if they arent really blocked.

Also servers that no longer exist at all remain on the list.

@bonifartius

Q. List of server instances blocking QOTO?

@bonifartius

That block list is significantly incorrect. It was meant to be a trolling tool and had some subtle things that intentionally gives bad block data.

Without going into the details most of the things listed there saying they block you will not actually block you.

@freeschool

@khird

So if you remember michael who was one of our mods a while back and a very good old friend of mine. He is actually one of the guys I hired who will be working on this sort of stuff, specifically our system admin.

While I do not want to make him a regular mod again (largely cause people are just too toxic and i dont want to expose him to that) I can assign him the work of helping you with the backlog as a temporary moderator.

So yea i can invest some of the company resources to help with that.

@freeschool

@freeschool

Now that we are backed by actual resources, namely a development team and significant financial contributions you guys will see a lot mroe activity int he coming months for sure.

@SirCandinavian@noagendasocial.com

I've never pretended to be a medical doctor.

@SirCandinavian@noagendasocial.com

I am not a **medical** doctor. Nor have I ever claimed to be.

@SirCandinavian@noagendasocial.com Huh? Whether thats a real problem or not, what does it have to do with this post.. doctors werent even mentioned, neither were vaccines, hell there arent even any medical doctors in the conversation.

I mean, we all know your anti-vax conspiracy theory trolling attempt, and thats just so idiotic not even worth addressing. But the fact that you tried to make it sound relevant when it isnt is kinda laughable in its own right.

@freeschool It was needed, I had the same concerns you have had the last few weeks since spam has been on the up tick.
