I want to thank everyone for the ovwhelming support for our cause, you guys mean a lot.

I have been tthinking a lot lately and thing I have a social solution to this problem. It is something I am going to start doing a writeup on ttoday. I think it will not just thelp QOTO but in general address the unwantant fracturing of the fediverse.

I will share the dettails once my writeup is complete but if anyone is intterested in hearing more or potentially help being a part of it, please reply here or reach out to me in DM.

@evan

If you or anyoine might be interested in getting involved in a solution (social not technical) hit me up.

@danhon

@danhon I am working on a solution right now... it will be interesting to see how the community responds.

It's perfectly reasonable and possible for *both* of these statements to be true:

* it is better here than on Twitter
* this better *isn't good enough*

Federation and decentralization *as currently and inconsistently and idiosyncratically practiced* while better, are not good enough.

Digging in and saying that decentralization and federation *is* good enough is really, really unhelpful.

Also, the potential for better does not mean the practical experience is better.

@swansinflight@mastodon.nz

we encourage our users to block, but leave it to them. We care about how they behave, what they boost, but not what they want to SEE.. I follow a few bad-actors, mostly so i can call them pieces of shit when they say things that make them pieces of shit... but that makes me a alt-right nazi i suppose, go figure.

@tio

@freemo Yeah I too run a Friendica instance and I never de-federeated. This is getting old for me already, and I kept screaming about this for a while now. A bunch of admins on the fediverse act like Musk I swear. Quickly block other instances in the name of thousands or millions. Non transparent too.

I have no clue what's the issue here....I've been on the fediverse for 2 years now.....where are these trolls and idiots and nazi and child porn? I have seen none. Maybe because I carefully select who I want to follow and if anyone is a troll I block them immediately. Simple. Works great. Thus, users has a tremendous power at taking care of themselves and new tools/options can improve the situation, such as the ability to mute comments on your posts or only accept comments from your friends, or block lists that individuals can enable for themselves, and so on.

De-federation is a very primitive and destructive behavior.

Qoto.org blocking, genocide mention

@gunchleoc

Its secondary to our policy.. It has been well established that if we block bad-actors then it would directly put the safety of the lives of ou LGBTQ in danger... Their safety and protection trumps any potential for good people to suddenly become radicalized because of something they saw.

All |I know is my stance has potentially saved 100s of lives and not once has one of yours demonstrated to become radicalized.

@FroehlichMarcel @FediThing

@kmj

Information is power. Defederating restricts access to information as lobg as your server represents good people then defederating takes away the power from good people. The bad people can still see and comment on your posts, so you are ensuring the bad people have the power.

@futureisfoss @tio

@DanBC this is replies to a post from tech.lgbt so the opposite is true. Despite the fact that they block people on QOTOs side the kverwhelming response to their post has been people defending us... so clearly that means even more if so many people are blocked by them in the first place who might want to defend us.

Your point if anythibg clearly shiws QOTO has nit just the majority support but the iverwhelming majoriy then.

@frayoshi

We arent zero censorship to be clear. We do have rules and they are explained. Outside of those clear rules we dont censor.

The Whiteness of Mastodon (worth the read)

@mguhlin As a non-white person myself i find this an important read. Ill comment on it once i have a chance to give it the attention it deserves. Im not at home right now.

@jq

My stance has always been a willingness to talk. Gargrons unwillingness to even hear our side is largely what has been the biggest issue for me. I am always more than happy to have a discussion.

@Gargron

@herrsaalfeld the fact that altleft and alt center dont exist is the very joke this poll intends to point out. I woukd think the altcenter option made that obvious.

Why in the world woukd you assume bad faith with no context especially when in the comment threads i am seeing mocking the options? Come on you soubd like your better than that.

@freemo Defederation can be a threat for decentralization, I'm glad there are other fediverse admins who understand this.

@lavahot

That is very unfortunate to hear :( For some reason I would have expected the opposite out of him.
