@drewharwell This issue really has me split.. on the one hand its just public data.. on the other it is clearly doxxing, which by its very nature is the exposure of public data... I'm not sure if it makes me rethink the idea of doxxing as an evil or what...

@ceoln

Basicallyt he issue is if yo scroll down to a point and leave it there. New messages come in and fill up the column and slowly eat up memory.. its not a bug though, its just the memory it takes to display the messages..

It is easily resolved by taking the scroll bar and moving it back tot he top (most recent post).. then after a few seconds when the next post comes in all the excess messages that were loaded disapear and the memory is freed.

@barefootstache

@waltercool fascism is defined as effectively authoritative.. communism **is** fascism.

Definition from amrriam webster: a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control

@mandlebro

There is no conciousness from a neuroscientist perspective... AI can in some cases process and integrate more data than a human yet this would not qualify it as concious.

@acjay We already have account verification using keyoxide and keybase. See my profile as an example.

@peterdrake

No one will know if you put them in a list.. a list is a good way to organize it yea. I do admit it would be a huge hassle though.

@QOTO

Please reboost this #poll.

In your opinion (does not have to be informed), what is the ideal #Mastodon #Instance size for #content #creators? (For content consumers, see poll in previous toot.)

@slider7420 We are a fork of mastodon, our version and the mastodon version have no relebance to eachother.

You can already follow hashtags, we implemented that feature years before mainstream mastodon had it.. you add hashtags you want to follow several ways, either create a column devote to it or follow it in you raccount preferences.

@mguhlin

Thanks for the shout out. You'd be welcome here. We seem to match all your criteria, and we have a good number of teachers on the instance.

@Roofhare @redegelde @freemo@cloud.qoto.org

@redegelde

That seemed like a strange statement.. yes of course its not, yes they are.. what about my response maid it sound like a contest to you?

@mguhlin @Roofhare

@fourmajor I disagree to an extent. This is a "how many hairs make a beard" question. There is some liminal space, but your profile picture clearly has one and @freemo 's clearly lack one. There is a realm of existence on the edge of consciousness, but it is unstable. I propose that while there may be debate about what hit the historic marker of the first artificial consciousness, that it will be perfectly evident if and when such a thing comes into being.

@peterdrake

Ok so you can set it column-wide for home column.. but no way to use it on a per-user basis.

@QOTO

@peterdrake @QOTO there is a way to do this... i just dont remember where.. im poking around now to see if I find it, no luck, but I know i saw a way somewhere.

@antares @fourmajor With a beard though we have a pretty object sense of what a hair, we can identify a hair.. consciousnesses has nothing that is objectively measurable. Even I have no way in my own head, have any way to check to see if in conscious.

@Nawen

I'd advise against that one. they have a history of the admin endorsing violence.

There's an interesting (but paywalled) editorial board opinion piece discussing social media platform problems at

washingtonpost.com/opinions/20

I reference it because, buried in after all the back-story is the following statement, which I like, and I think is also relevant in the context of this thread.

"What matters is that they’re set up to get it right, in aggregate, according to the public commitments they’ve made.

That starts with something as simple as platforms committing to transparency, "

This lines up nicely with the intent of the UFoI.

@Jerry

These type of trolls can be pretty nasty and sometimes they work togtether en masse to silence anyone that looks at them the wrong way.. its a growing problem and effects blocks at the instance level as well by the admins.

Check out UFoI.org which is a project trying to address this sort of false reporting and toxicity.

@mattblaze

@mattblaze On My first day on Mastodon, some dude scolded me for disagreeing with someone about whether Federal Government employees should be allowed on Mastodon (I think they should be). He said I was too new and shouldn't tell anyone I disagree with them. Then he reported me.

I think this is a newly emerging type of troll that has learned to live within Mastodon, under the radar of moderators, while being extremely annoying. I'm seeing a growing number of complaints about this type of activity. It's all probably the same few people.

I hope people know enough to just ignore them
