I suspect if you look at thr numbers not that many are the result of circumventing backgroubd checks.
That said i am fine and support requiring background checks for private sales, but to do that youd have to give private owners access to the mechanisms to do it at the same price as a shop.

So my girlfriend ate a tiny bit of my edibles, keep in mind she has never smoked or did edibles. Was such a low dose though i didnt expect anything...
Anyway we were driving to dinner everything is perfectly fine. Then as she makes a 3-point u-turn right as he car is perpendicular to the road and blocking both directions kf travel she looks up at me in a panic after fiddling with the gear shifter for a minute and goes "Jeff help! I forgot how to put the car in reverse" lol i just pop her gear shifter up a notch to R and thrn just make fun of her for thr following week ;)

It went by pretty quick, so you may have missed it, but I think there's a good lesson to take from James' humility about his own design judgement.
I think I have good design judgement, but I am constantly recognizing designs in the wild that are wildly successful that don't commonly exhibit the failure modes I would have predicted.
Very true, the TSA no fly list is an amazing example of why mental health evaluations will certainly be abused.

You think the choice is between crazy people with guns/planes vs sane people.
The reality is the argument is treated people who are now mentally healthy flying/owning planes/guns vs untreated people.
It amazes me the republicans are out here trying to argue for better access to emntal health meanwhile democrats are trying to punish people who need access to mental health.

I woukd say pilotes with mental health issues should not be grounded, 100%. Science is about going with what the nunbers say even when it defies your biases and assumptions.
We know for a fact that the result of groubding people with mental health issues means more people with mental health issues wind up in the pilots seat.
Are you claiming we should enact policies that are known to objectively increase the number of mental health issues flying planes?

@freemo @thatguyoverthere @admitsWrongIfProven there is a natural experiment that shows this. The FAA grounds pilots and controllers who have a medically diagnosed mental health issue. The result is that people in these professions do not seek treatment for their mental health issues because doing so means loosing their job.
You can have it be highly skewed for violent areas and highly skewed for republican areas while still allowing republican areas to be rich (though thatisnt necceseraly reality).
So lets look at real numbers. 36% of republicans make under 15k a year. Similarly 63% of democrats are under 15k.
So roughly speaking 1/3 of poor high crime areas (you are assuming this is the same but ok) is republican while 2/3 democrat. Oversimplification but sure.
So now why cant the democrat areas have 10% .ore guns than a low crim democrat area, and republican area the same, also have 10% more.. how is this invalidated just because republican areas will have more guns since they are republican and in high crime at the same time, so they have 2 factors while the deocrat areas have one factor...
