@alfredo_liberal@universeodon.com I hope you are right on all these points.. and i suspect you are.

@jeffjarvis You can search here... You can search for hashtags (so just search for or whatever)... You also have pretty much any of the fediverse search engines you can use which will index free-text (which most servers dont do, but thats a mastodon limitation only).

I sure have, probably 50 times over the years, and several times this month alone (as its been a significant topic)... I've addressed both why the data and science we have is lacking (on either side of the discussion).. why its bad approach to analysis and Data for whats out there, and likewise provided data nad charts from the data we have access to...

So yes I've shared the data to that, quite often and recently.. I guess what you meant to say is you never saw or asked me for data and now are upset because I called **you** out for not having data so now your diverting the spotlight and trying to make it sound like I refuse to provide data when I actually did? Umm ok, not a good look, but ok. But yea if you want to download the data with me and do the analysis I'll be happy to go through it with you step by step. Its on my timeline but we can process the data together if you'd like as well.

re: Announcing the Oliphant Social BlocklistS (plural!)

@oliphant 80%, no 60% is enough for your largest T0 list, and T0 is recommended as minimal "start here" type lists. Plus out of, what was it like 10 hand picked authority servers, and of that very small number you pick instances like mastoart which is outright abusive with its list (citing reaasons like an instance even **federates** with another instance they block), rage.love also has a history of draconian and even arbitrary blocking criteria.

so yea when there is a selection of 10 servers, some of whom are well known to be abusive with how excessive their block list is... then numbers like "80% agree" doesnt mean much.

As for instances that have no place on a T0 "start here" sort of list but seem to be on one of your T0 lists (good-actors):

* berserker.town
* qoto.org
* detroitriotcity.com (I may be misremembering these guys though i need to check if they are the server i am remembering)
* scots.network

These were the four that caught my eye.

@pies

What assertion have I made havent provided data for? I have posted the data for pretty much all my assertions in the past, at least if/when someone brought it up.

re: Announcing the Oliphant Social BlocklistS (plural!)

@oliphant

If you want my opinion... instead of blindly basing blocks on how popular a block is, start with receipts... **require** any block on any list to have a receipt.. start a universal receipts system (I wrote one already, havent released, happy to team up).

That alone will eliminate the vast majority of the issue.. users can, as you say, actually validate against receipts, and the accused should (if the receipt system is open) be guaranteed the ability to provide counter-receipts, true transparency

@alfredo_liberal@universeodon.com Not a big fan of him at all... If it werent for the attacks on the people are trying to push right now id 100% agree with you... Only reason im kinda glad to have him is he might be the deciding vote to overturn some of theanti-gun nonsense coming down the line soon.

re: Announcing the Oliphant Social BlocklistS (plural!)

@oliphant The whole point of using something like this, a T0 list, is that they are picking a "minimal" set, very few if anyone is going to start with a minimal set, especially with such a long list as that, and review it one by one.. and without good receipts they cant really evaluate it well either...

Id argue starting with T0, considering the main T0 list linked is riddled with good-actors, is far FAR worse than starting with 0 and building up.

re: Announcing the Oliphant Social BlocklistS (plural!)

@oliphant Yea I get that, and it is good you provided a shorter list... but having seridy in a T0 list, any T0 list just isnt a good look IMO. Its being recommended as a choice for a starter instance and as a "minimal" block list, despite being riddled with good-actor instances that have no place on a "minimal" block list is all im saying.

re: Announcing the Oliphant Social BlocklistS (plural!)

@oliphant

I am not talking about the size of the blocklist, im talking about the size of the instances that do the blocking.

As you probably know there is a list out there that lists how many other instances block an instance. This in turn is used to populate many block lists. In turn this appears to have been gamed by many using mostly one-user instances toblock an instanc een masse to make it look like they are more blocked then they are.

It looks that many of your "trusted sources" use this list directory or indirectly to create their own list, largely because it appears that quite a few instances with little or no justification appear on your tier 0 list.

You yourself federate with us (QOTO) and im sure are well aware we are strictly moderated and dont engage in any activity that could possibly justify a minimal list like a tier0 list, yet there we aare along side many other good-actors.

I think int he end the fact that the tier0 list is huge and has so many good-actors on it discredits the list out of hand. I am glad the process is open, but I'd argue the issue isnt with the process itself but with the premise.

@realcaseyrollins @oliphant

The original oliphant list wasnt too bad.. but my god as much as i appreciate a more democratic and transparent process this list is just awful.. even their minimal tier0 list has tons of instances that have no business being on a minimal list...

Announcing the Oliphant Social BlocklistS (plural!)

@oliphant Love the idea of trying to find a system that isnt a single opinionated person... But curating a list of many biased lists is no better. Worse yet by the look of things it weights things by the number of block lists and doesnt weight for the size of the adoption of a block list. For example I suspect most of this comes from block lists derrived from block counts that heavily favor small and single-user instances.

There needs to be transparent, receipts, and good due dilligance if you want to create a good block list people can trust, you cant just average all the shitty block lists and expect to come up with a good block list.

@Pat Not sure I see why this proves anything about plurocrats.. both deserved to be fired, and quite a few more.

@AmberWavesofFlame Everything I've seen says he quit, but headlines dont mean much I guess and I dont care enough to check...

@freemo @realcaseyrollins its probably safe to just say when liberals existed.

i saw old liberal commentators last night talking about how the current institutions are largely neofascist wearing liberal robes.

@icedquinn @realcaseyrollins

I guess thats fair, nothing about modern librerals resembles a liberal really...

@JustineSmithies My main phone is android. But I do carry a linux mobile, its technically a phone but thas a physical qwerty keyboard so its closer to a phone sized laptop.
