@lxo
If the line between the rich and the poor is arbitrary to begin with then any comparison between them is just a arbitrary...
Dice it how you will but the rich and the poor do roughly the same total harm due to numbers... so anyone who is out there thinking the rich collectively are doing more harm than the poor collectively is just wrong.
While you can argue an individual rich persons harm is more even if their morality and actions are the same (such as not paying taxes).. sure, but then you have to contrast the fact that when the rich do good, the effects of their good actions are also magnified, and since they objectively contribute more to charity, yet another way it balances out.
@mzedp Ohhh touch schreen keyboards... I dunno, it would be harder to do with sound, maybe not possible.. but a simple RF based solution that reads the signal passing through the phone could probably do it.
Either way im sure you could get that information though the approach may be a bit different is all.
> equal proportion, as in, a billionaire exploits any single poorer person a thousand times harder than a millionaire does, which makes them the biggest exploiters.
This is offset by the fact that there are millions of non-billionairs to every billionaire.. So the total harm done by one billionaire is far exceeded by the collective harm of a million non-billionairs.
> but I disagree, the rich don't exploit everyone else proportionally, they exploit those poorer than themselves a lot harder than they could exploit the richer, that in turn exploit them. so the poorest are the only group that ends up exploited by everyone else proportionally.
Nah, aside from there being way more poorer, generally the idea that the rich are going t exploit them more simply isnt true.. for starters statistically the rich are much more generous with helping the poor just in terms of percentage of their income they donate to charitable works. Not to mention generating wealth and jobs, but thats another matter
In the end the overwhelmingly larger numbers of the non-biollionairs will easily balance out (and exceed) that harm caused by the billionaires itself.. in the end all classes have a relatively equal responsibility to the problem.
@mzedp I need to dig up the studies to find the limitations.. but as I recall as long as the typing can be heard with reasonable enough quality it should be able to do it. It goes off the unique sound each key makes.
@kilroy_was_here Oh the CIA and other alphabet soup absolutely could... and they had tons of other ways.. TEMPEST I think it was called was another example.
@freemo @LALegault
Thanks for the thoughtful reply.
It is more than I deserved based on my tone.
I am the admin of one of a relatively large mastodon instance... Trust me your tone didnt even register as rude to me :) You're good
@icedquinn Fuck social codes... worry about whats right, and consequences... like a true hero :)
@icedquinn If a woman is flirting with you and you respond "please dont flirt with me if you arent serious" I see nothing rude about that... it might loose you the lady, but not rude.
@SpaceLifeForm I used an extension which kinda does that in a more automated way... one window you flip between....
It was almost a solution except for the fact that its super buggy to the point that it almost makes things worse.
@futurebird Are you an etymologist?
@sergeant I moved away from brave to librewolf at the start of this. The reason i moved away from brave is because it has been broken on wayland for months (you cant open dialog boxes like save boxes)... moved to librewolf which fixed that problem but is now broken in other ways.. ill probably move back to a chrome fork, maybe brave, but ill need to find some way to fix that like using an old version or something I dunno.
😂 🤣 😂 Trump lawyers forget to ask for a Jury trial, Judge 👨🏾⚖️ proceeds without one
Thats kind of hilarious, and probably true... sadly that may be something that saves his ass from prosecution however.
> I live with a high risk person in a red state that defied mask mandates. We've avoided infection by never leaving the house. It's exhausting.
Understandable. It is a serious and scary disease. As a research scientist who worked on COVID for years I can relate, its exhausting constantly being around it or being scared.
> I want this taken seriously.
I assure you as far as the CDC goes it **is** taken seriously. Its just that most people dont know enough to really judge if it is, so you just get media hype... As someone on the inside I can assure it is.
> I want people to know it isn't over.
We know, the general public knows... The CDC and scientists always knew from day one it was **never** going to be over. It is here, it will be here forever, or at least until there is a radical change in technology... but its not going anywhere, we knew that very early on.
That said I do agree the general public may know its here, but may be irresponsible about it at times, and thats a valid complaint.
> I do not trust my neighbors to be honest about symptoms or to bother with home tests.
Thats fair... but giving them some arbnitrary and made up isolation period would put you at FAR more risk.. not trusting your neighbors isnt solved by giving them false and dangerous medical advice.
> I'm angry about it and the government has done a terrible job assuaging our fears.
I guess this depends largely on what you mean. But you wont get any argument from me that the government has fucked up many times in many ways. But giving **correct** medical advice on how long to isolate was certainly not one of them.
Huh, No thats not true, we went with something that works better and is more accurate... you isolate until you pass your at-home covid test... since there is no answer (not even one that errs on the side of caution)... you may have covid for any amount of time, so there is not number.. the most accurate, safest,a nd the one that errs on the side of caution is, testing.. and thats what they did. That was the right decision.
😂 🤣 😂 Trump lawyers forget to ask for a Jury trial, Judge 👨🏾⚖️ proceeds without one
@darnell A bit worried Trump will use that to get out due to incompetance of his lawyer (it is a thing)... even if not while I want trump to be found guilty I also want it to be fair so people wont cry foul... so not happy to hear this.
@Teri_Kanefield Excellent objective and learned info.. thanks. You earned a follow.
