Is this a scam? I feel like a 1TB SD card for 20 bucks must be a scam? Yet the reviews are all good AND there are lots of cards not that much more expensive...

Can we rreally buy a 1tb this small and this cheap now?

@trinsec Man i havent eaten ceral in years.. i like it. I just never think to get it.

Ya know how people look back and describe the crazy hair and style of the 60s.... in 50+ years we are going to have to explain all of this fucking bull shit ::gestures at everything::... I cant believe I will need to explain this bull shit one day.

@condalmo

I myself can see both sides of this.

It allows regulations which force people to use official sex and name (which a person can freely change)... so it allows for laws that enforce proper naming and gendering as long as its official.

On the other hand it can be quite rude to someone who is transitioning but havent officially made the changes yet, and im not sure thats doing much.

But I think those protections, while perhaps unintentional, may not be a horrible way to go about it since it does leave the **option** for them to use a suggested sex that is different than the official one, it just cant be compeled.

So regardless of intent I think it may not be so bad and even a good thing for many.

The other things you suggested may be problematic. while I do think its the respectful thing to do to call someone by their preferred pronoun I think it is quite dangerous to enforce legally a person use particular forms of speech

@condalmo

Correct, and you may rightfully think those sorts of things dont belong in a bill. Thats a fair debate.

But it does **not** limit speech, in fact it prevents the government from being able to limit speech. Its just that you think the way it protects speech from being limited is a way you feel speech should be limited... and again im not even saying yoru wrong. But saying this limits speech when it does the exact opposite is simply wrong.

@robryk If you are resisting a legal arrest then they can charge youw ith resisting **on top of** the reason they were originally arresting you. But the reason for the original arrest can not be resistance of arrest itself as you cant resist an arrest before being arrested and you need a reason to arrest therefore it cant be the reason.

Its well established case law, but no, off hand I dont know the specific case that would address this. I also dont really have the time and bandwidth to search for it for you.

@condalmo the bill says what it does, thereis no need to speculate.

Big bad Ted Cruz doesnt magically change what the bill says it does just cause he is the ass that created it.

I am not saying he created it to protect transpeople, but that is effectively what it does by only allowing employees to be forced to use legal names, so employees therefore can be compelled to use a persons changed name and not their "dead name" but the other way around is not allowed, they cant be forced to use a non-official name (like calling someone by their dead name after a name change).

@robryk the law is quite clear that you cant arrest someone for resisting arrest, but yes you need a reason to arrest someone. What those reasons are is quite specific though.

@condalmo

You may need to read it again carefully.. it specifically states a law can not **force** a federal employee (limit speech) to use specific pronouns or names.. its literally the opposite of limiting speech since an employee retains the **option** to use alternative pronouns but cant be legally forced to do so.

@georgetakei

@robryk I literally watched a cop video where a bunch of cops arrested someone and claimed the reason was resisting arrest. Its something ive seen in random cop videos half a dozen times.

@condalmo

Exactly and thus proving me rcorrect, thank you.

As you describe it this does **not** limit the use of preferred names and pronouns.

In fact the opposite, it ensures that an employees speech can not be limited and compelled with regard to pronouns and names.

It also provides a **protection** for transpeople as it does allow someone to force an employee (or through a law) to use a persons legal name, meaning if a transperson has changed their name the employee is forced to address them properly.

@georgetakei

Ahh i remember this book well, it is required reading in high school.

Cops will say with a perfectly straight face "You are being arrested for resisting arrest"... lawl

@marathon of all the insect vomit it is some of the better vomit to choose from :)

I never understood how cereal killers even exist. You cant even kill something if it isnt alive. I never met any brand of cereal you could kill!

> i'm aware of ketones as an alternative energy source to glucose, but wasn't aware they could also be converted to fat.

Not only is it possible but the pathway happens directly int he mitochondria. Essentially the keytone interacts with ATP to produce fatty acids and the process goes both ways. When we burn fat it is **always** through more or less the same pathway as burning protein. That is when we burn fat we convert it to keytones, not sugar.

Oddly enough it is sugar that has a one way relationship, while it can be converted into fat when we break down fat it wont convert back to sugar but instead will be in its ketone form (methyl-CoA if you want to get specific if memory serves)

> lab studies in animals suggest that we tend to consume less food if it's rich in protein though.

This is absolutely correct, but it isnt related to inefficiencies or an inability to get fat off of it. ITs due what i explained earlier, since protein and fat are both non-sugar energy sources they dont result in insulin. Insulin tells your body "turn all the sugar in my blood to fat and make me feel hungry again", so naturally the more sugar you get the more you will eat. Protein also has a synergistic effect with carbs, it slows downt he absorption of protein causing your sugar spike to be flattened over a longer period. Since insulin is triggered based on max blood sugar if this spike is below a certain level it wont triggewr an insulin event and will mitigate hunger as well even through its effect on the carbs.

> most foods have a rather modest protein content. it makes sense to focus a bit more on it than the others. that's also what i was instructed to do after my weight loss surgery.

Focusing your diet on fats and protein while minimizing carbs is an effective and proven approach to dieting. I am not disagreeing with your conclusions about protein being healthier, i am just disagreeing with the logic you used to get there to try to help you to better understand the process behind it all.

> my small intestine is shorter than normal because a significant part of it was removed as part of weight loss surgery. my ability to digest carbohydrates, particularly sugar, has been reduced considerably.

I am not a doctor so i wont comment on the pros and cons here or anything. But yea that adds up and makes sense along with many of the gastrosurgeries that may be used. If its effective for you or not I cant say but it works for many.

> of the two remaining macronutrients, protein is the less calorie dense one.

Calorie density is a poor way to view the issue IMO. Fiber is the least calorie dense, but you will never feel satisfied, and if you dont get enough fat protein wont m=satisfy you either. Also too high a protein count is very bad for your liver. If you truely eat all protein and little fat your body wont be able to process it into ketones or fat fast enough. The result is that a small amount will start to pass through yoru kidneys and it is **extremely** bad for your kidneys once you get to a certain extreme.

Long story short a low carb diet should have moderate protein and no more and largely be focused on fat for calories. Ideally healthy fats like omegas.
